Does anyone make pocket money using rent a coder ( I want to buy a suprise holiday for my wife) . Any horror stories or tips ? I can handle the technical bits , I'm just after advice for what would be a few extra pounds.

I did some projects there when I was still in school. It was chicken feed for a lot of work because of the competition. Although with more reputation you may be able to get some better contracts...

I tried it once. I got $100 for a simple little app that took me about 5 hours to write. I didn't really have any problems, but I know others have (hi, CG :)). Too much stuff on there is ludicrous, honestly. I remember seeing a buyer post a job for an "MSN Messenger Clone". The price? About $200 USD. The time frame? 2 weeks.:laugh: Of course, some Indian guy ended up bidding on it.

CG should write an article that we can link to when people ask about RAC during the Aussie-night.

In my college days, $200 would have been 5 months of pocket money for me. Assuming I work at night (5-6 hrs daily) for 2 weeks, that gives me 80 hours or so, and I probably would have been able to write a basic messenger in that time (including basic testing and building an installer). And I wouldn't have had to ask a silly question on the forum here either.

The site owners make a fairly substantial sum of money - nobody else does.

In my college days, $200 would have been a bit better than a week's wages (part time). Five such projects would have paid for that semester's tuition. I wish there'd been a RaC then - it would have given me something to do while taking phone calls at my part-time job.

What a joke. If you had a bad experience with them over things they did they can take zero legal action against you. If you boned it then tread carefully as you might have some liability but if they choked on a turd of their own devices they cannot do a thing to you unless you agreed to something in writing ahead of time and both you and them have signed and dated copies indicating your inclusion into the agreement. The fact they threatened to sue tells me enough right there. *THEY SUCK* The notion of needing a site like rent-a-coder to find work tells me something else but I'll stop here as going further would only shed to much light on my current mood...:-O

In my college days, $200 would have been a bit better than a week's wages (part time). Five such projects would have paid for that semester's tuition. I wish there'd been a RaC then - it would have given me something to do while taking phone calls at my part-time job.

Sounds about right. I went to tech school, so the tuition was considerably less, i didn't have to stay in a dorm, and mostly didn't eat. Didn't owe a thing on graduation day.
