CG should write an article that we can link to when people ask about RAC during the Aussie-night.

I tried it once. I got $100 for a simple little app that took me about 5 hours to write. I didn't really have any problems, but I know others have (hi, CG :)). Too much stuff on there is ludicrous, honestly. I remember seeing a buyer post a job for an "MSN Messenger Clone". The price? About $200 USD. The time frame? 2 weeks.:laugh: Of course, some Indian guy ended up bidding on it.

In my college days, $200 would have been 5 months of pocket money for me. Assuming I work at night (5-6 hrs daily) for 2 weeks, that gives me 80 hours or so, and I probably would have been able to write a basic messenger in that time (including basic testing and building an installer). And I wouldn't have had to ask a silly question on the forum here either.

Does anyone make pocket money using rent a coder ( I want to buy a suprise holiday for my wife) . Any horror stories or tips ? I can handle the technical bits , I'm just after advice for what would be a few extra pounds.
The site owners make a fairly substantial sum of money - nobody else does.

In my college days, $200 would have been a bit better than a week's wages (part time). Five such projects would have paid for that semester's tuition. I wish there'd been a RaC then - it would have given me something to do while taking phone calls at my part-time job.

What a joke. If you had a bad experience with them over things they did they can take zero legal action against you. If you boned it then tread carefully as you might have some liability but if they choked on a turd of their own devices they cannot do a thing to you unless you agreed to something in writing ahead of time and both you and them have signed and dated copies indicating your inclusion into the agreement. The fact they threatened to sue tells me enough right there. *THEY SUCK* The notion of needing a site like rent-a-coder to find work tells me something else but I'll stop here as going further would only shed to much light on my current mood...:-O

5 x $200 = $1000 per semester. I wish... Mike stalks away to pay for his daughters semester tuition, fees & room / board. $7800

Sounds about right. I went to tech school, so the tuition was considerably less, i didn't have to stay in a dorm, and mostly didn't eat. Didn't owe a thing on graduation day.

University expenses are getting completely out of hand these days. At the same time grants and scholarships are almost 100% "need" based rather then merit based. You bust your ass to make a decent living while your kid busts her ass to get straight A's and a high score on the entrance exams and what's the reward? Pay full price for college. Your neighbor spends his day on e-bay while collecting unemployment - his kid gets B's / C's and gets the minimum required entrance exam score and what's the reward? Free ride. The whole f'ed up system is geared to reward failure and penalize success...

I believe that their agreement that I signed virtually when I clicked 'I agree' specified this.

Well, it's a question of geography. I have full time work with CP, obviously, but I do contract work in my evening/weekend time and I have tons of work I'm turning away now, but initially, as someone in Tasmania, I needed to find some contacts where there was work. I imagine most RAC people are in India and have the same problem.
