Win 2003 or XP ?
-
Well that time has come again, time to reformat my HD and re-install windows. I'm currently running XP, but wondering whether I should install 2003 instead or stick with XP ( or dual boot ? ) Mostly I do web surfing and C++ development in VS2003, although I'd like to eventually play with C# & ASP.NET .. and of course the ocasional first-person shooter What, if any, advantage does 2003 offer the developer ? Can I still play FarCry, etc or do I need XP for that ? What do you guys recommend ?

Some of the server products require Win2003 Srv ([EDIT] duhh [/EDIT]) (e.g some versions of SQL Srv). I'm running Win2003 Ent Srv x64. As for games, the only ones i've put on are Doom 3 and Hitman Blood Money - both ran fine.

XP ! XP is stable enough and well supported by third party hardware provider (drivers, support, ...). If you wanted to stick on a business model, 2003 should have done the trick, but since you wanna play somedays, XP is more valuable for polyvalence. Use XP, apply SP2, WGA, WI 3.1, .NET 2 and you should have something coherent... Kochise

No reason to dual boot. And you can do any thing in windows 2003 that you can in windows xp. My question is do you have a valid licence for windows 2003? If not do not install it...
