Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Beta

You download the beta from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8d702463-674b-4978-9e22-c989130f6553&DisplayLang=en[^] Haven't tried it yet, as I can't access the KB page, so I don't have a list of fixes! Can anyone help with this?

"Service Pack Beta"??? Is that the same as, "Service Pack Buggy"? X| If a Service Pack is buggy, why bother releasing it? Alvaro

I think it's more a "hey, did any of our fixes break anything" kind of test release. If you don't want to participate, no one's making you wait for the final service pack release.

List of fixes is on the Connect site: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio[^], if you've signed up for the beta. Not sure why it's available from the regular Downloads site!

OK... I guess. This is a first for me: a Beta on a Service Pack. But if it means a more stable SP, then I guess it's OK. Alvaro

They did this with the VS2003 SP as well, remember? Except, instead of a beta, they forgot the list of fixes for the actual release. I held off installing it 'till they finally posted one, and good thing i did - none of the bugs i wanted fixed were in it anyway.

They've released betas of SPs for Windows since about NT4 SP3. So it's not new. VS 2003 SP1 had a beta too. It's perhaps fairly new for Visual Studio but VS is becoming quite a complex beast these days.

All service packs have betas. They are often closed to a select group, but it has a definite beta process.

I think there must be a big queue in translating and uploading KB articles or something. There are links all the way through the Connect page, and very few of them actually work. We, obviously, would prefer them to go up in English when the English text is available and then let them add the translations when those are ready.
