The republican leadership was ahead of the issue - they had dealt with it and didn't surpress anything - unless, again, you are suggesting that they should have gone on a witch hunt against all homosexual congressmen based on virtually no evidence at all. Is that what they should have done? Was Foley supposed to be forced to resign because he was a homosexual and had a friendly conversation with a page. On what basis were the republicans supposed to do more than they did? Get your facts straight. The Republican leadership wanted them kicked out of Congress, but because the Democrats (who were in control) had recently only censured one of their own (who later went on to win re-election), they only censured them. Ask Newt. He led the fight. Republicans had enough sense not to put either of them back into office...Unlike Barney Frank. The difference is clear. Republicans kick out these perverts and Democrats reward them. Given the Democrats long history of this sort of thing, and given the hypocrisy is their only vice, it is therefore immoral for them to complain.

No, the point is that Republicans took action once the information was revealed whereas Democrats have a long history of promoting such people after the information was revealed. Our complaint is that it appears the Democrats were responsible for concealing the information until a politically opportune time, thereby promoting pedophilia and possibly making them guilty of obstruction of justice.

The only thing the republicans knew was that Foley was suspected of being gay, and had sent an "overly friendly" email to a former page. And on that basis, the democrats are saying the republicans should have launched an investigation into Foley's behavior. All I am asking is why? Unless the Republicans were supposed to equate homosexuality and pedophilia, why were they supposed to do anything more than ask Foley to stop emailing former pages just as they would have done for anyone else? Otherwise, on what basis would any investigation have been warrented?

Firstly, there was no pedophilia - even if Foley did everthing alleged. The worst thing you might call it is virtual statutory rape. But even that isn't valid becuase 16 is the age of consent in Washington DC. So not only is FOley not a pedophile, he isn't even a criminal - just a creep. Secondly, if it is pedophilia, the dems have a long history of defending it. All Foley had to do was change parties, and he would have been right at home. The fact that he is gay is not relavent. Only Republicans seem to think that is an issue which shows how out of touch they are. The issue is that he was making moves on underaged boys. That should have prompted them to do something. If you said you are investigating Foley for sending explicit e-mails to underage boys nobody would accuse you of gay bashing because most people know that there is a difference. The issue is one of age, not gender. If he had sent explicit e-mails to underage girls would you have not investigated for fear of being labeled a "hetero-basher"? Newt's argument that an investigation would have been seen as gay bashing is nonsense. There was no investigation because they want to hold on to power at all costs.

Mental illness is defined, in part, by society as it's basically a deviation of what is considered to be "normal" brain function. As recently as 27 years ago, homosexuality was indeed considered by the psychiatric community as a dysfunction. What you said makes perfect sence and I agree with it %100. People's views on homosexuality have become very laxed do to what is on TV, what is tought in schools, ect... I don't believe homos are really bad people who diserve to be punished. Homosexuality is just a really awfull mental condition.
