I can see this going on and on. Just think in a few years they are going to outlaw the monkey bars and climbing aparatus. Soon recess will only be "Ok class it's time for recess. Now put your books away and sit quietly at your desks."

Of course, you do all realize that it has nothing to do with concern for the safety of the children, and everything to do with avoiding lawsuits. We have entirely too many lawyers on this planet.

Sure but there are ways to get around that and it's harming children in the long run. You could make an argument for a lawsuit the other way as well.

no, you put the ball on a little stick, in front of the batter. you could call it a "tee", like in golf. then the game would be called T-Ball

Yeah - craziness abounds. Over here in the UK, we used to collect conkers from horse-chestnut trees and play a game called (cunningly enough) conkers. Basically the point of this game was to hit the other persons conker (ooh err missus) and smash it up. Recently, a local council decided that collecting the conkers was too dangerous, so they had workmen up the trees collecting them for the kids. How the F did we ever survive as kids?

Something I heard on the grapevine (that may or may not be correct) was that the real reason was down to a few isolated cases where children have had serious allergic reactions to the conkers, and as kids these days are getting more and more allergies they were taking precautions to prevent accidents, and inevitably lawsuits.

Yeah. Maybe in 20 years those children could sue the schools and government for taking away their childhood and ruining their chances to become a mature, stable, adult human being and instead turning them into rapists and robbers (they *only* want to play tag with the police ;P).

I thought everyone said kids did not get enough exercise, I guess we will all have to pay to have padded hamster wheels for each student added to the playground. Lock them in and tell them to run for 30 or so minutes. And... When I say for each student I mean with germs and such can't be sharing hamster wheels.

What a load of BS... I think it's just a side effect of the US of A's favorite sport: suing. I remember when a costume maker had to put a tag on a children's superman costume, saying that the cape did not actually make you fly... And it was because some kid jumped from his house's roof (which is indeed very sad), and his parents sued the company. But the worst is, they won... So, now companies are made responsible for parents' bad parenting. Wouldn't it be great if we could always make someone responsible for our own idiocy... and even better if they are forced to take the blame... and way even better, if they have to give us money for just being an idiot. The same with suing McDonald's for making people fat... it's called "junk food", for god's sake. Did you think it was nutricious? (and I love junk food, but I know what it is). Now slowly they're taking away the children's right to be children. What's next? A law forcing them to stay put on recess, so there is no possibility of anything happening ever to them? As a child, I loved playing tag. Sure I got pushed, sure I had an injury or two, but that's one of the main parts of being a child: interact with others, get bruised, get dirty, learn in the way. C'mon people, have a little common sense, and stop looking for ways to win easy, work-less money. I don't know, but to me, all that is just plain stupid.
