If the explanation is on the Orkut site then it must be marketing spiel.

Why would I need to go to Orkut to communicate with people from CodeProject? I can do that perfectly well right here.

What the heck does that mean? "to keep mum" means to keep a secret. In this context I cannot understand your use of the expression.

Sorry I'm not interested in keeping on with this argument. There's a post just made before this ASP.NET Ajax release. I'm not interested in that. I think if I reply for that, being Honest I don't know anything related to Ajax or web programming. It will not make any sense for me. There are many things happening here in the world which we don't know. If you find some service useful you can make use of it else it's better not waste your time. I can't say how it will be useful for you. That's why I gave the link and Orkut has explained in well manner and I'm not posted with any marketing related things. For me, it's very useful I can meet my classmates, ex-colleagues, friends etc. Sometimes all people may not interested a technical forums of code project.

So it's some form of community forum? I thought that was the whole point of the messageboards here on CP. If I want to chew the fat on any old issue, then I will talk in the lounge or rant on the soapbox. If I want to talk technical about C#, I will use the C# forum. What I won't do here is try to arrange a date, or find a long lost friend who's just got out of prison. I'm talking to a community of like minded people here, and the debate is what makes it interesting. People may not agree with me here, they may flame me, but I know that we all have shared passions and interest. Surely that's what the community is about.

I was really irritated in replying for the scrap-book entries on clicking the senders profile and go to his scrap book, then only I can make an entry to his scrap/her scrap. Just few minutes before, when I logged in to orkut, a new Reply Link under the scrap entry! It's really cool. Have you noticed that?

EXACTLY!! I think Sarath is being a bit complete idiot snob about this--an attitude that is anathema to the concept of CP and the Lounge. Imo, someone wants to be an elitist here they will quickly find themselves a target of disrespect and much dung flinging. Being one toward Colin in particular already reveals how handicapped they are with their empty marble bag...

And I can't believe I'm replying to you with a "me too" post. Somebody help us all. Before it's too late.

                                  cheers, Chris Maunder

No... Why would I want to use Orkut? -- modified at 10:16 Friday 20th October, 2006 It is just a simple question - Why vote it down?

Let me try. Orkut is hugely popular in India and I think Brazil. I want to emphasize *hugely popular*. I guess Sarath just assumed it was popular all over the world, especially in the USA. I bet he found out that Orkut is not a worldwide phenomenon. It is kind of neat once you get a critical mass going. You can sign up, locate your friends, people with common interests, join groups, etc. Anyone can leave you so-called scraps (messages), and you can reply back. Many college / high school / youth use it as a major means of communication in India. Perhaps in the USA it is not popular because of the lack of a critical mass of users.

"Scraps"? Poor name - I'd give scraps to a dog, not a person (unless I didn't like them).

I guess I'm not in that demographic.

Dunno... I'm not in the USA.

The expression you where looking for was to "keep mum", perhaps you ought to re-consider your attitude, and tell Colin why you value Orkut, after all CP is about information exchange.

It is entirely possible that his lack of command for the English language causes him to post the about link so that he wouldn't mangle the explanation of what the site offered. Dunno... tough crowd. Or he could be snobbish. I just didn't read that into it.

                                        This statement is false.

Ok, go to the soapbox and soak. Your miseries will compound to the point where you won't be able to recognize any semblance of your former self and can start anew.
