My Fiancée is going to New York for some Christmas shopping, I haven't been to the US so I have no knowledge of the place. Anyway she wants to bring me back a gift, historically this dangerous territory, so its usually better if I steer her to shop where I know she will find something appropriate. So what I need is a major US Electronics/IT Stuff retailer, one that is very common and likely she will pass at some stage during her visit ? So I can browse their website and direct her accordingly.

CompUSA is a good store for selection (not compared to online retailers, but way better than wal-mart and slightly better than bestbuy) They have them in NY, although in the city I have no idea where you'd find one.

Tell her to beware of any non-chain electronic stores in New York. Non-chain stores are the ones that are not part of a larger retail company. Many, many electronic stores in New York offer great deals that seem too good to be true and they are all over the place. Please tell her not to shop at them, because they mostly sell refurbished junk that's likely to break, and some just flat out sell stolen stuff. Like the previous people said, Best Buy and Circuit City are great picks. EB Games is a pretty good game store that's everywhere, as well. Just let her know to stay away from any store that looks at all suspicious.

Best Buy or Circuit City. The former is a tad better.

If she is going to the tourist areas of Manhattan, it is like a giant outdoor mall. All the major US retailers have stores there. I remember seeing a few Best Buys there, so that should be a safe bet.
