Bad Sentences

Run-on sentences are bad and run-ons make a website or any document look unprofessional and they are easy to avoid, an example of a run-on sentence can be found at http://www.sysinternals.com[^] "The Sysinternals web site was created in 1996 by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell to host their advanced system utilities and technical information and Microsoft acquired Sysinternals in July, 2006." Seriously! Did somebody not proofread the FIRST SENTENCE on the website?! My first post from Vista! Mike

It's true, it doesn't actually matter, and the world is sliding into illiteracy anyhow, so most people won't even notice. However, if I were to read their site, I would certainly consider the sentence in question as evidence that the authors are stupid, which may affect me if I'm making a buying decision.

A few years ago, I meet a guy that had gone to a conference to listen to the Dalai Lama. His thoughts on the experience were: "What can he teach me when he cannot even speak English" Who's the "stupid" one? That guy or the Dalai Lama? See my point?

Just add like and um to run-on sentences in textspeak (or should that be lk and m? :)) and that would be murder! "win vsta is lk rly gr8 n stuf n i lk cnt w8 2 wrt lk prgs 4 it n i lk m wnt 2 use m sysint tls 2 und how it lk wks!" Lynne Truss[^] would throw a fit!

I see the point in your example, but I don't think that maps to the issue we are discussing. Everyone knows Mark is a smart guy. But because he's a smart guy, and because he's seen as one of the world's best experts on Windows programming, people expect a level of professionalism from anything related to him, including his website. No one here complains that my website uses crappy grammar :-) My point is that, when you are as publicly acknowledged as Mark is, people set higher standards for you. I guess it's part of the celeb hood that those guys have earned for themselves.

depending on where you are - lets say you're in the States (USA I mean) - you could be 18 to 22 hours behind us, so yes, Saturday for you IS Sunday for us .... we are GMT + 11 - you're likely to be GMT -(some factor) 'g'
