You can continue to use the software you received during the subscription time: MSDN FAQ[^] My subscription will expire end of this year, does anyone know if the download site stays available for me? (I guess it won't...) Do I have to download everything (that I'm interested in) over my crappy 512 KB/s line? I don't know if I'll still get the DVD shipment containing Vista+Office...

Wow, that's nice. So I might consider subscribing. Thanks.

When this particular event took place, we were the largest business unit (we had about 700) within a company of about 1500 people or so. Since then we've been sold to Eastman Kodak.

Hey! This is the Lounge; that's downright disgusting. Truth be told, I spent a fair amount of time as a defense contractor, which, God willing, I will never do again. The type of work was OK (lots of simulations), but I hated the fact that my work always seemed to end up on a shelf somewhere very shortly after I finished it.

AFAIK the download site will cease a few months after your subscription does. For a period I had two overlapping subscriptions but the id assigned to the first is no longer valid. Whether the 'few months after' is intentional, or merely the time the old id was purged I cannot tell you, but I really would not expect the site to stay available once your subscription ends.

It could be. So that customers are given time to renew their subscription and not be interrupted unnecessarily.

That is annoying. :sigh: Just like the "let's use that money or else the budget will be cut".

I just looked at the price of a MSDN Subscription (Professional) at a local reseller, and it's available at about 1,500 Euros for 1-year subscription. I wasn't able to find any info about renewals. How much do they cost usually? The same as a new subscription? Thanks for any information.

Have you looked at Empower ISV? It is MSDN for small ISV applitations. At least in Mexico, I get 5 licenses for $560 USD per year (all of them). You can only renew once, and the third year you must pay full price. Search for Microsoft Empower ISV in Google.

I bought my MSDN Professional subscription straight from MS. The first year cost me $1200, and the renewal was $800 this year. I don't know what translates into Euros, but it was 1/3 less for the renewal. Still a rip-off, but hey, what can ya do? According to MSDN, for the Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition with MSDN Professional Subscription (what used to be just the MSDN Professional) is 1.284,00 € for the full, 855,00 € for the renewal.

:wtf::mad: Why is it so cheap? It should be, at the current change rate, 923 Euros for a new subscription and 615 Euros for renewal. Bastards.

I half wonder if there isn't a EU tax that has to be paid. :~ As well all know taxes are passed on to the consumer.

I'd love to help, but unfortunatley I have prior commitments monitoring the length of my grass. :Andrew Bleakley:
