From what I've heard, I must have a really fast computer, or something went wrong during the installation of SP1. It didn't take hours as reported for others. It took ~35 minutes for me. So.. are your systems on the verge of insanity, or what? :~

Mine took about 40 mins, at least the last five of which had the traditional MS "0 seconds remaining" dialog.

I'm still trying, I started with 2.6gb free disk space, 3 hours later :wtf:, the setup informed me there was no more space, and gave me the option to free some and continue. So I free some space and choose to continue, it immediately spits out another error and rolls the entire thing back. Utterly pathetic.

It used about 3GB of my disk via a massive System Restore checkpoint, which I then removed to recover the space. This should be optional IMHO.

It may be stupid question, but how is that checkpoint removed?

I actually removed all my system restore checkpoints via the Disk Cleanup applet (Start|All Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Disk Cleanup).

If I had to sling a guess, I'd say that whether you have System Restore enabled or disabled could be a contributing factor. Since I've heard that it writes out a 1 GB restore point, it would seem to me that those with system restore turned off might suffer a bit less. Of course, this is just a guess. I ain't going anywhere near this thing until I see how many of you survive the experience. :)

Ah, forgot about system restore, anyway, I've left the install running overnight, here's holding thumbs. Also, I'm busy installing it at home now, a faster machine, been going for an hour already.

About 40 minutes to download. About 10 minutes before it told me I needed to uninstall the Web Application Project thingy first. An hour or so and it said it was complete, but it wasn't; it had started on another install, an hour or so later it again said it was complete and it was. At one point I noticed that msiexec.exe was using 99% of the CPU. The oddest thing was that it quietly turned the Windows Firewall back on.

I'm still not clear on whether SP1 is OK to use on Vista. Some MS pages/blogs mention a "Vista Update beta" or somesuch, but I don't know what that is exactly. Anyone know? Or tried it on Vista?
