He is definitely the best bowler ever, IMO. I would rate him far higher than Murali because Murali has taken most of his wickets on spin-friendly subcontinent pitches, while Warne has had a lot of success pretty much everywhere, including Australian wickets where spinners would normally be crucified. I'll miss Warne. :( [edit]I seem to have sparked off the most bizarre flame war in CP history. [/edit] -- modified at 3:10 Thursday 21st December, 2006

      Cheers, Vikram.

I love to watch Warne when he is on fire, Warne got more fire than Murali.. But to beat Murali, Warne may have to bring up his batting records too.. Have you watch Murali is batting

Welcome him to AUS pitches, he will prove you that he is the best bowler.. Talk to AUS batmen, or Eng batmen or any other and ask them how nerves they are, when Murali gets the bowl to his hands.. Even though I said so, I like to rate the two as Murali = best offspinner ever Warne = best legspinner ever

You are standing on what, to claim him a Chucker?? When in 2002, Wisden named him the greatest bowler of all time. Australian prime minister John Howard himself once controversially labelled Murali a 'chucker'. I don't surprise to see you telling the same. You know what he got as a reply from former Australian captain, Steve Waugh? Steve said Murali was "the Don Bradman of bowling". Waugh went on to say he is perfectly legal too. -- modified at 23:56 Wednesday 20th December, 2006

Good?? see below Muttiah Muralitharan holds a number of world records, and several firsts: The highest number of international wickets in Tests and ODIs combined (1081 wickets as of October 20th 2006) Second highest number of Test wickets(657), after Shane Warne from Australia Second highest number of ODI wickets(425), after Wasim Akram from Pakistan The most 10-wicket hauls in a match at Test level (19 matches) Along with Jim Laker (England), he is the only bowler to have taken 9 wickets in a Test innings twice, and the only Sri Lankan to have taken more than 8 wickets in a Test innings. The most 5-wicket hauls in an innings at Test level (57 innings) The first (and only) player to take 50 or more wickets against every Test playing nation.[citation needed] Taken 10 wickets in an innings against all countries (9 countries) Reached 350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600 and 650 wickets in the fewest number of matches played Bowler to remain ranked as No.1 by PWC (PriceWaterhouse Coopers), now ICC cricket ratings, for the longest period of time. One of the few bowlers in the world to reach 1000 first class wickets (Notably, Muralitharan also did this in the fewest number of matches, most of which were Test matches). Taken 5 wickets in an innings more than 100 times at the first class level. Only player to take 10 Wickets in a Test match in four consecutive matches twice. No other player in history has even done it once. He is a great bawler, and one of the greatest of all time.. I cannot understand why AUS are afraid of Murali this much..

:). I'm not against Warnie. But wanted to underline that Murali is equally great. Both has given new dimension to art of spin.

Yesterday when the news started filtering about Warne's retirement, my initial reaction was of surprise, because he was bowling so well. But as Ian Chappel said it is better to quit when at top and when people think that there is still some fire left in him. Also there was some speculation about McGrath too following Warne into retirement. Australian cricket is in for some tough times when these two legends hang up their cricket gear. Agni

Exactly the kind of arrogance you expect from an Aussie sports fan. I can write huge essays supporting Murali's action but you just need to go and read the reports of your own labs to see if his action is legal or not. BTW. Have a look at the records to see the averages of wickets taken AGE MATCHES PLAYED WICKETS Warne 37 143 699 Murali 34 110 674 I still believe that Warne was the best leg-spinner ever and Murali was the best off-spinner ever but best spinner ever... well I can't pick one.

My own eye sight. There is no doubt he's a good bowler and he has changed his action a lot as a result of being caught out cheating.

[/edit] -- modified at 3:10 Thursday 21st December, 2006

you remember the number of wickets Kumble got on his last Australian tour? If Warne is the greatest spinner ever, then Kumble is the most under rated player ever. Kumble Wickets per match = 538/111=4.85 Warne Wickets per match = 699/143=4.88 Also Warne has more than half of his wickets(419)against England(186), South Africa(130) and NZ(103), who have been poor players of spin. I will miss McGrath more then Warne.

I'm an Aussie sports fan and I would not describe myself or expect you to describe me as an arrogant one. Stop stereotyping. This is not the sort of behaviour I expect from Pakistani sport fans.

Not exactly agree with this... this is correct that he has not got the spotlight as warne and murli but he is also labeled as one of the most destructive bowler...
