Artificial Intelligence is still better than no intelligence. ;) however, I am a Forbin project reader, and I-Robot, I think that that A.I. is ultimately a bad idea (even though I employ quite a few A.I. techniques in my work), should A.I. ever truly be achieved the machine would quickly recognized the insanity that is man, and depending on what other programming is laid, respond accordingly.

This story[^] from the BBC talks about a series of papers that have been sponsored by the UK Gov't and contain predictions for the future.
The paper says a "monumental shift" could occur if robots develop to the point where they can reproduce, improve themselves or develop artificial intelligence....If this happened, the report says, the robots would have certain responsibilities such as voting, the obligation to pay taxes, and perhaps serving compulsory military service.Terminator, anyone? :) Would the robots that pay tax reduce the tax burden on me I wonder? If they pay tax and are allowed to vote, then surely they would be able to stand for parliament also? Could we end up with a robot government? (ok, I sense obvious jokes here).ChrisB
Why would people build robots that end up becoming a burden by demanding stuff? Isn't the whole point of robots (from the Czech word for labor or work) that they will do all the work without all the annoying demands that come from human workers (pay, vacation, bathroom breaks, etc.)?

Thank you. You have once again proved my premise that 98% of what Hollywood has released in the last 20 years is a rehash. I'm adding this to my list. Forbin Project => Terminator others I can remember off hand The Shop Around the Corner => You've Got Mail I have quite a large list at home. Kinda silly really, the whole technical/industrial revolution was supposed to pave the way for less work, but we seem to be back to the 50-70 hour work week as a result.
