Oh? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas[^] ........... Is your atheism conflicting with logical thought? Christmas having nothing to do with the birth of Jesus? :omg: You must have had too much eggnog or wine.

Actually, that's an interesting article. It makes clear that the early Christians did not celebrate Xmas, nor did Jesus want them to. It also makes clear the pagan festivals from which Xmas is derived.

Captain See SharpIs your atheism conflicting with logical thought?

Are you serious ? Have you not read my other posts in this thread ? I am a Christian, I am just not ignorant of the origins of Christmas, or the fact that they have nothing do with Jesus or the Bible.

Captain See SharpYou must have had too much eggnog or wine.

I regard my Christianity to be the reason I don't consume any alcohol.

Captain See SharpChristmas having nothing to do with the birth of Jesus?

I know that He's been shoehorned in there by people, but His intention was not for us to turn a pagan festival into a celebration of His birth. That is my point. Seeing as you missed it - Christmas is a sham, it has nothing to do with Christ. However, my household certainly exchanges gifts, and cards, and has a family dinner on Dec 25. None of this is a sin, it just has nothing to do with Christ.

"Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual holiday that marks the traditional birthdate of Jesus of Nazareth. Christmas combines the celebration of Jesus' birth with various other traditions and customs..." Why do you argue with this? Why do you even go to church? I doubt you truly believe in God.

Captain See SharpA lot people don't have there birthday parties on there birthday, but they still celebrate it.

Do they really ? How odd...

Captain See SharpChristmas is about celebrating his birthday and giving and sharing and doing nice things.

Like I said, Christmas has nothing to do with Christ, but there's nothing wrong with having a day with family and buying the kids some presents. Not a big deal.

In my family, we celebrate birthdays on actual birthdays. We may celebrate more than once in the case that birthdays land in the middle of the week.

Sure - we may have a weekend celebration for a weekday birthday, but it's clear the day that we're celebrating, and the celebration is as close to the actual day as physically possible. That's obviously different to saying 'we don't know when he was born, but we'll pick a day and celebrate it then'. If I don't know someone well enough to know their birthday, or ( as in this case ), they choose not to let me know when it was, why would I celebrate it at all ?

Some Christian attitude there. You give a display like that and then you wonder why so many people thinks Christians are a bunch of fools. You are fine example of a foolish Christian. In my church we celebrate Christ's birth on Christmas day, even though the evidence points to his actual birth being in the summer. I always thought it was in June or July, but it could have been September as CG says. It really does not matter either way. I do not agree with CG saying it is a sham, as Christmas is very important to many Christians, but I also will not question someone else's faith because he or she has a different opinion on the subject.

Often, that's the case. They can be a good way for CPians to provide peer pressure, but more often than not, that's not how it works.

Dude, Merry Christmas to you and your family

And to you :-) I'll be working pretty much every day except Xmas itself, but I'm still looking forward to some time with the wife and kids.

is it true or its just christians celebrate it because their forfathers have been celebrating since ages?

To be honest, we Charistains celebrate 'the birth' on the 25th of December or 5th of January for the same reason radical Muslims celebrate their religion of Peace while bombing school busses... Notice how both are a myth based celebration but still have an impact?

Yes Adnan, see the link below on my blog that talks about this. In short, it is a myth that Jesus was born on Dec 25.
