IQ tests test a narrow range of intelligence. That range differs a fair bit between tests, but they still seem to heavily favor math, logic, "book knowledge", and sequential patterns. Programmers generally do pretty well on those for the most part, but the tests leave out a significant portion of the rest of the gifted population.

They have to be inaccurate for Kyle to get a 126 on one.

My boy soon will go to kindergarten and I heard that kids get an IQ test before star elementary school, so I decided to research about what is this about. I found a very interesting link http://www.highiqsociety.org/iq_tests/[^] where you can take a free test without ask for the email address :) For first time I did an IQ test and I got a good score but I think a person with a background on mathematics and logic has a lot more chances over a person without it, I think a programmer will get a higher score than a very good lawyer. I’m sure I did wrong on history, how the heck am I supposed to know who was the prime minister of UK on the WWII when on that time my country was not even very populated with just 13M people, unless I had studied the WWII on my own is just can guess. I’m not sure how high accuracy those tests have. I have curiosity what could be the average score for programmers in CP.

IQ tests are a great way of testing people's ability to pass IQ tests. They are heavily weighted according to the preconcieved ideas of what intelligent people should know. having said that, no reputable IQ test will ask you questions about history. But, even if it doesn't, it means little.

This Internet test asks about 5 or 6 history questions over the 36 questions in total, which I think I failed in 7

That doesn't sound like an IQ test, it sounds like a test of knowledge. There's a big difference. It was Winston Churchill, by the way.

Winston Churchill was indeed PM for all the "we're going to kick some Nazi rear-end" bits of the war, but Neville Chaimberlain was PM of Great Britain during the "maybe we can pretend this isn't happening" bits of the war. Off topic? I ran out of Adderol....try writing code this way and not leaving orphaned events littered all over the enterprise that need handled.... :sigh:

I got 119. I bet I could do better if I took it again. I don't like the history questions though. I don't know or care about 500 year old people.

118, but IQ tests differ a lot. My scores on the I-net all go between 110 and 136. ;P Let's just say that I'm not (completely) stupid :-D.

I like others don't think it was a proper IQ test because you were asked general knowledge questions rather than "solving problems". However for the benefit of others, my IQ from that was 115 but other tests I've done have consistently come in at around 130-135.

I have no idea what I just said. But my intentions were sincere.

That's one of the things I point out to people who think that IQ tests are a precise measurement of intelligence. "If I can take an IQ test, then study some more on the areas it covers, and take it again and get a higher score, how can the IQ test be an accurate measure of my natural intelligence?"

That was in no way an IQ test. Im from sweden and dont know much about your history or politicians (I know about our own) does that mean I have a lower IQ than the average american then? pure IQ tests are completely free of that kind of things, It will only deal with logic/problem solving. try this instead: http://mensa.dk/testiq.html[^] (press "start testen" button , there are no danish text on the actual test) thats the danish Mensa online test. Scored 133 (with spread 15, 152 on spread 24) on that one :-)

You don't need them to take a test to work out that a programmer would have a higher IQ than a lawyer.

I got 119. I bet I could do better if I took it again. I don't like the history questions though. I don't know or care about 500 year old people.

"I don't know or care about 500 year old people." IMO, this is a proof of low IQ.

I did the TA^3 test on the same page and I got 121 this time.

I found the same discrepancy - 121 on the "easy" test and 133 on the "hard" one! The general knowledge questions should definitely not be there.

IQ tests are a great way of testing people's ability to pass IQ tests. They are heavily weighted according to the preconcieved ideas of what intelligent people should know. having said that, no reputable IQ test will ask you questions about history. But, even if it doesn't, it means little.

Exactly :-D But I guess an IQ test is a good way of preparing a child for many years of being measured by the same yardstick as millions of other children.
