Fantastic! Microsoft is starting to realize they can't develop everything and this looks like they are starting to concentrate their (not-so-scarce) resources into more important areas.

How is this any different than the current messenger, which I use, except for the design, which could be done insanely easily with the current code?

the WPF one is shinier. And as we all know to our sorrow, the average luser prefers shiny to capable.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft is still developing their MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger/Live Messenger product.

I have a new favorite word.

Using the GridView is like trying to explain to someone else how to move a third person's hands in order to tie your shoelaces for you. -Chris Maunder

Insanely easy? Really? Did you just look at the screenshots or did you watch the video? I'm not familiar with coding for Yahoo! Messenger, so I'm not saying you're wrong. If you're right, though, mad props to the Yahoo! team for making something like that insanely easy.

My guess is, they pretty much had to. AIM is now using Boxely (their own in-house layout engine) and my ain't it pretty. With WPF, Y! will be able to match the glitz, while staying true to the Y! principles (slowing your computer to a crawl).
