Van Halen rocks

I've just done something I should have done ages ago. Installed Winamp ( as WMP both sucks and blows up for me ), and let it index my MP3s. I need to go through and add about 500 CDs, but I have 17162 CDs ( I know it's not a real lot in this age of piracy, but I like knowing. I own 933 odd CDs, so guess 12 tracks per CD, that's 11196 legimate tracks, the remainder is a mix of stuff from when I used to download, stuff I've bought, and stuff you can't buy ). Anyhow, that wasn't the point of this. The point is, I just started to play 1984, and it's awesome. I am seeing a show on the 25th of 5 tribute bands, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, KISS, ACDC and Black Sabbath. Should be fun. I've maintained for a while that it's easier to just play CD's while I work, but I'm starting to think that the mp3 thing is much more convenient and leads to me listening to a wider variety of my collection. What do you guys do ?

I can't listen to music while I work. I immediately get sucked into the song, which makes it difficult to concentrate on the business at hand. Too many years of jumping up and down in rock & roll bands, I suppose. The irony is that I'd like to listen to music 24/7 because it's such a passion, but because it's a passion it tends to obliterate anything else. Well, you know. Except girls. :)

The 2 CD best of ( which I thkink is called 'best of both worlds' ), is a great place to start. Running with the devil is an OK song, but others are far better. Check out 'unchained' or 'panama', or 'poundcake'.

At work I do both, MP3s certainly allow me to vary the music, but the boom box I have at work lets me play the music louder. :)

Feature list is pretty slim, once it plays music and manages list of songs... All that's left is to look better than the other one.

Interesting. I get heat from some people for listening to music while I work, but the fact is, most of the time, albums that have been part of my life for 20 years, just wash over me. I enjoy that it's on, but I often notice that the last song is playing, or the album finished ages ago, because I'm focusing on work. If I need to do design type stuff, then there's no music, but while I'm coding, it creates an atmosphere that I enjoy, without distracting me. And, I can play a lot of the songs I listen to, I know what you mean. Strap teh guitar on me, and it's a different experience altogether. Of course, I can't really play anymore, not with the back and arm issues I have.

I bet WMP flat refused to even start, not like it would have mattered, you would never find the CD you where looking for anyway. *grin* that's the truth. The thing I love most, is not ever wasting time commuting, or money on food, I just grab something from the fridge, bring it back to the PC, and keep working.

As soon as I the storms subside I will get one of our test Sky HD boxes connected (I have one flashed for err.. soak testing at work) and tune into Planet Rock :cool: The LNBs on the dish have been vibrating about 5-6 inches at about 3-4Hz in these winds as it's on the side of an exposed building. It is going to be replaced with a toroidal focus dish in a couple of weeks which will only move when the wall does! Elaine (satellite fluffy tigress)

Van Halen and 1984 are their two best albums, both classics, both highly recommended. VH is a raw, landmark, "guitar hero" oriented album. 1984 (Jump is on it) is a more polished, commercial album. There's not many bad songs on either album. The only other original album from their discography I would recommend buying is Fair Warning. Has some classics, a couple of under appreciated songs, and a few clunkers. Most of the rest of their good stuff you could get on the "Best Of" CD already mentioned.

I saw Van Halen in 1985 when I was just a little girl - they are very good in concert, but not the best I've seen. I think they were on something - fairly likely. Anyway I think someone may have mentioned it but the box set is called "Best of Both Worlds", which is very good as it has some live stuff and some re-mastered studio tracks. I listen to music almost all day, even when I'm asleep :) Right now - Pigs (The Australian Pink Floyd Show - THE ONLY Floyd cover band worth anything.)

My fault for being sarcastic without an icon, it's Friday night :-) Long ago I've given up on managing lists of songs in any player, I use windows explorer to search and browse then drag and drop in my player every time... As far as the skins, the only thing that will make me go away from default/classic is if I find a cleaner-simpler-less intrusive one and... even on a Friday night, I know that won't happen :->
