Oh man, those Nintendo Wiis are fun. Co-worker has one upstairs and I just spent half an hour smashing a ball around a tennis court. Pretty natural and you even get a rumble on impact with the ball. Beats the pants off the cool-to-look-at-but-oh-so-boring Xbox 360 games. OK, lets say it is a totally different experience and not really a competitor to the Xbox 360. But for a family, for kids, for non-technical people and for people who don't have hours to spend deep inside a game, the Wii is fun and probably a better choice. For someone like me, the Wii is a good choice. -- modified at 13:41 Wednesday 17th January, 2007

I have a PC High End/XBOX/XBOX 360, games are amazing where you usually kill 1000 guys, run at high speed in LA street or fly a F18 over the sea with a high adrenaline and all the sh.. on board, but I have a kid too. XBOX 360 games sucks for kid generation, I'm thinking buy a Wii to have fun with my son :). So far viva piñata is the only game that I saw suitable for kids and still is for grownup kids. If you want top games go for XBOX360 If you want fun games go for Wii If you want high quality games and also have fun, buy both.

After playing half life and other games on the pc for years we got an xbox the christmas before last and my immediate thought when I fired it up was "the graphics suck". Being so used to playing on a pc with let's face it a million times better graphics than a tv set, you really have to have not played any games on a half decent pc to not be dissapointed by the graphics on tv.

That's like getting a Ferrari and using regular gas - the performance will suck but it will still work. When you buy a sports car you use proper fuel. When you buy an Xbox 360 (or PS3) you should use proper equipment. By the way - you can plug your 360 into your PC monitor too and get Hi-Def gaming - just so you know (you need the VGA cable - I have one here that I'm not using so if you want it, let me know)

Crikey! Microsoft must be paying you a ton mate. HDTVs, Xbox 360s, Wiis, games, broadband etc. etc. ;) And the Guinness is still good here though it is only a once a week affair I am having with it. No more throwing up on your couch I promise. I'd like to try a racing game on the Wii where I reckon the controller should be pretty cool. As for playing with other people the Xbox Live system is very cool, I agree. But the thing with the Wii is the person you are playing against is right next to you and is falling about the place trying to hit the ball back to you. It is different and refreshing.

Yep - I know what you mean re having someone beside you playing - hence I'm getting a Wii.

No, no, no - but I need to build a credit history so I simply had to spend loads of money on very important things - like consoles and HDTV etc ;)

Well, the xbox came out in 2001. That was six years ago. A six year old PC wouldn't look to good right now either.

You are on crack. Not to start a war but c'mon. I'll take my Rainbox Six Las Vegas and Gears of War over the Wii Tennis anyday. Sure it is fun for half an hour, but once the novelty of the controller wears off you are stuck playing on a last generation machine. The Wii = Xbox 180 with a new controller. If you own a nice big hdtv, or projector and a good sound system the xbox 360 kicks ass. And don't tell me graphics don't matter. How immesered can you feel when you are looking at the blocks that are GameCube (I mean Wii) graphics. You probably still write Classic ASP with VB6.

Once the Mario game comes out, the Wii will once again have the best game available for any current platform.

I've played Rainbow Six and Gears of War. They are like every other game I can play on a PC. I admit, they are fun and I love a good hour of Half Life 2 every few weeks. But I am not going to shell out a couple hundred dollars for an Xbox or Playstation when I can get the same or similar games on my PC. There is no point for me. A Wii is different. It is a fun entertainment device I can play for a few minutes a day, blow off some steam and not take too seriously. Nintendo are after a different market to Microsoft and Sony. Nintendo are after families and the majority of the world who really, really don't want to spend 6 hours blowing up aliens in make believe settings. Your mom could pick up the Wii and have fun. The same probably cannot be said of the Xbox. Look, the Xbox works for you and that is cool, I don't mind. But for a guy like me who already has a PC, it makes little sense. A Wii is fun, frivolous and does what my PC doesn't. So yeah, I'll take tennis over Gears of War anyday too :)

Well we can't all be cutting edge I guess. :) Actually I was thinking of finding out what cool hacks can be done with it since I'm probably not going to use it for anything else anymore.

I totally agree with that. I am waiting our Wii and none of stores nearby have them in stock. Nintendo installed demo Wii stations in all the shopping malls in this area. People are crazy playing the games there. I played Baseball, Tennis, Bowling games. Man, it brought my childhood. I don't care it's mall or home, I was so involved the game. Wii rocks!! Good thing we already got bunch of Gamecube games.

Let's see... Gears of War on High Def 60" with the XBox 360, or I lug my pc into the living room and try to use that on the tv, with horrible resolution til the game boots, but then my machine is now in the living room.. nah, I'll take the XBox 360. Although with the pc using the XBox 360 remote controller then its more possible, but I'll still take the 360.

Actually the controllers are what I generally hate about consoles. They suck compared to a keyboard an mouse for anything except the most basic of games. Nintendo though have made some innovative, kickass controllers in the Wii.

Yeah, Nintendo rocks, they always have.  I will be buying one when I can get one cheap.  I always wait, I hate spending a fortune on games.

Yeah, I'll be waiting for some better deals (including two controllers so Fiona can play along) before getting a Wii. It's not like the graphics can go out of date like on an Xbox or Playstation.

Actually the controllers are what I generally hate about consoles. They suck compared to a keyboard an mouse for anything except the most basic of games. Nintendo though have made some innovative, kickass controllers in the Wii.

Yeah, I was referring to lounging on the couch whilst blasting Locusts. Not as easy with a keyboard and mouse. But I agree regarding the Wii controller. Truly innovative.

Wii created a new game paradigm. I know some hard-core gamers and some non-gamers who just have so much fun with the Wii and playing fun games like tennis or bowling. for most people, that's enough for not going to a ps3 or an xbox360 which are only the same consoles but only better in graphics and sounds.

Dunno about that. There's more than just added graphics. Added processor means more AI, and having a 12 gig hard drive means I'll never have to move saved games between memory cards again. Its all about adding MORE. Especially when we're talking about open worlds for cruising through. Open terrain alone is worth the extra power.

we're talking about "immersion". since people can clearly become immersed in things that have no graphics at all, graphics aren't all that.

sure. not everybody requires lots of blinking lights. try not assuming everybody else shares your limitations.

Yeah, but I don't play a game to read for immersion. Visuals help with that. And its not just blinking lights, but the realism they are hitting now is pretty WOW on an HDTV. And a good game with good graphics beats the pants off of one without. It doesn't have to be a trade off. With the next gen consoles you get added processing power and memory which adds to AI as well as graphics. That allows better gameplay if used.

Have to agree with Todd - you're on craic*. I've played around on the Wii a bit and I love the damned thing (will be getting one as soon as they are back in stock at Target) but to say it beats the pants off Xbox 360 games - you MUST be on craic* ;P Was up until 3am this morning playing online Star Trek Legacy and chatting with people while playing and coordinating the defense of space stations. Before that spent about 2 hours playing Viva Piñata (ehhh, it's a really macho game guys - honestly) - one of the most addictive games I've ever played. Games like PGR 3, GoW, The Lord of the Rings BFME II, are just so damn cool when playing alone but when you start going online - simply amazing. Nothing like being in Redmond and racing my brother back in Waterford with the abuse flying left right and centre as he side swipes me on the last bend of a 20 min race in PGR or playing GoW in cooperative mode with a work mate over Xbox Live. You can't get that on a PC (the experience is just not the same - it's just not as integrated) and you can't get it on the Wii. I wasn't a console fan until I got the 360 before Christmas - I was always in the "I can do it on the PC too and it's just as good" boat, but since I've had the 360 I'm a big console fan and I KNOW that it's just not the same on a PC. I have my nice and powerful PC, I have my 360, and I'll be getting my Wii. 360 will be king of those three though - primarily because of Xbox Live. Oh, and I have a nice 32" HDTV which makes the 360 look AMAZING. Seriously though - I personally prefer the online aspect of the 360 over the Wii. Just a personal preference and I completely understand why others are different. *btw, I know you're not on craic :-) Just too much Guinness.

                                          Regards, Brian Dela :-)

What's your opinion on that game? I'm finding it a bit slow and cumbersome. I mean, fly, target, shoot, wait for turn, wait for turn, hyperspeed, target, shoot, wait for turn... Dunno, maybe I'm missing something.
