It's a FragBox from Falcon NorthWest which cost over $4K so one can understand their position, given such thin margins
Well there's your problem, you bought a ripoff in a box. Having already IIRC soaked you for something like a grand, and using inferior quality parts to the DIY used in the comparison, what's another $20 down the rat hole.

Yah, I know it was ridiculously expensive but I had some rather specific requirements that I can't have met here in Thailand (at least not without a lot of fscking around). I don't have the time to learn how to build a machine from scratch, especially not a high-performance small form factor one, so it was just a case of paying the extra money to get one built. The actual box itself was about $3800 but shipping was quite painful. Awasu just closed a big deal[^] so I figured I might spoil myself a bit :jig:

Try Ubuntu also. I am very pleased with it, although it gave me a hard time installing the DLink WiFi card. Thomas

The bandwidth still sucks. the coup was something of a non-event. It's business as usual, with the government and military faffing around trying to figure out what to do next and generally ballsing it up. Witness the recent shenanigans with the currency, foreign investments and visas. The fiasco with the new airport was long coming, although it's still surprising just how quickly it all fell apart after it was opened.

Actually, the fact that you mentioned Australian dollars was not the only reason I asked if you were back - your bio says your location is Australia. I guess you never changed it when you moved to Thailand. :) Just a shot in the dark, but were you British-educated?
Cheers, Vikram.

Well, your English is very good - nearly indistinguishable from a native speaker's, and waay better than the average Japanese's. The reason I asked now is your use of the word faffing. You haven't answered my question yet. ;)

I guess Mr. T wasn't being honest when he vouched for the contractors being able to fix the minor discrepancies before opening. If I remember correctly he made the Bangkok Post retract the stories about the international inspectors finding cracks in the run ways and taxi ways or face criminal prosecution for slandering him. That actually came up in the press again this week. The Bangkok Post fired the journalist who posted the story and there are now calls for him to be reinstated (or least apologized to :laugh::laugh: fat chance :|). It's actually gone from bad to worse. They now think the airport is sinking into the swamp (who would've ever thought that could possibly happen ), and there has been talk for weeks already about re-opening Don Muang because Suvarnabhumi is *already* at full capacity :omg: A worker died the other day because some scaffolding was overloaded, luggage was damaged today by leaking toilets, it's almost beyond belief.

Never been to Fortune Tower but I did go to some other Plaza (forget the name) and it didn't have the ambiance of Pantip. :~ I took a SongTiou on Tannon Onnut and a bus from some major intersection to it just past the Secon Mall (or some such named mall). A lot smaller than Pantip; only one floor devoted to electronics. It was a bit boring but the prices were good and it was a lot closer to where I was staying at the time (Onnut Soi Yii Sip). Usually I stay on Eckami Soi Yii Sip Sam and take the klong boat to Pra Tu Nam, an adventure in itself, and walk from there to Pantip. The last few times I would come in on the overnight train from Buriram, do my business and take the night train back the same day. I have very little tolerance for Bangkok these days. I grew up in New York City so big cities do not impress me. When I was younger I used to go to clubs but now it is into the city for business and out again as quickly as possible.

It didn't get the name NongNuHao (cobra swamp) for nothing. Then there were those nasty allegations that the contractors hired by Mr. T's cronies had substituted inferior materials. :~ Who would have thought that possible?

Luckily Mr. T took an early retirement or he would have converted Don Muang into a market by now, as he had planned. X|

I guess the few toilets that there are are now self destructing. X| Maybe they should ask Mr. T if he will vouch for the hong nam contractors too.
