Laptops...what kind do you use?
-
I just bought a Compaq Evo N180 laptop online this afternoon. They are offering great deals since the merger with HP in case anyone is interested. So, I was wondering what kind of laptops everyone uses? Anyone have the N180? Opinions? Best Regards, -- Dana Holt Xenos Software
i've got a crappy old Compaq with an AMD/475 in it. tiny little screen, weighs a ton, but it's fine for doing email on trips. -c

I have a Compaq Presario and Dell. Both pretty nice. The Compaq has 512 Megs 20 Gig and a CD R/W and a DVD player and the Dell has 256 Megs 20 Gig CD R/W Richard Monarchies, aristocracies, and religions....there was never a country where the majority of the people were in their secret hearts loyal to any of these institutions. Hi- $300 off !! Thats a great deal on a solid laptop. If you dont mind me asking..Did you also get the free docking station with your Evo ? I dont understand why N600 is $300 more than N180 with *less* capabilities on almost all counts (even if I pay for the 3yr warranty $240) !  Thanks- Vivek I currently use a Dell Inspiron 3700 at home and Compaq Armada at work. The compaq is quieter and doent freeze up as much as the dell.

I've most recently used Gateway Solo laptops. Stay away from them. My first one died prematurely and its replacement is dying.

I have an IBM thinkpad p3-600 256m which is really a great laptop if you can manage to overlook the fact that it gets really hot and bluescreens all the time. The most important thing to me when buying a laptop would have to be the mouse. I like the little jstick mouse that is between the G and H on the keyboard. I can't stand those touchpad mice, ewwww. -Jack To an optimist the glass is half full. To a pessimist the glass is half empty. To a programmer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Vivek Rajan wrote: If you dont mind me asking..Did you also get the free docking station with your Evo ? No, I didn't get the free docking station. I didn't even see that promotion. :omg: I got a 256MB memory upgrade (for a total of 512MB) and an untralight carrying case. It came out to around $1600, which is not bad for the 1.13MHz PIII and XP Professional. I had been looking at buying a laptop for some time, and when I saw these deals I just had to take advantage. -- Dana Holt Xenos Software

Dana Holt wrote: No, I didn't get the free docking station. I didn't even see that promotion. Dont feel too bad, because it turns out you cannot get the Quickdock on the 1.13Ghz. The web site is very clunky. To see the current deals, you have to load the page and watch the flash panel on the left margin as it changes :omg: Good luck V

Jack Handy wrote: I can't stand those touchpad mice, ewwww I agree 100%. I have a thinkpad 390 and the thing that I like most about it, and that I am surprised not many notebooks have, is the little feet on the bottom that popout so that the notebook is at an angle like my keyboard. .. It amazes me people can type on a completely flat keyboard.

I use a Sony Viao that I really like. I would say that overall the Sonys really kick arse. :) I haven't actually tried these guys, but I have talked to them and they seem like nice guys. Plus they offer quite a bit of bang for the buck. M-Tech Laptops

This may seem like an odd question (as I bet a lot of mine do :~ ) but why are you running Win 2K Advanced Server on a laptop, in all honesty what do you gain over something like Win 2K Professional, especially on a laptop? Nick Parker
