Even Waffle House serves better coffee than Starbucks. Though that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that's read the sign on the wall in WH clearly stating: "America's best coffee". :rolleyes:

Maybe you can help me then... I recently purchased a reusable filter for a auto-drip machine. The reason being that I want to reduce my non-recyclable paper consumption. The problem is the mesh isn't fine enough and grounds find there way into the carafe. Actually more like a fine coffee silt that makes the last cup unusable. I've talked to a couple of people and they've gone back to paper. Do you have a recommendation for a filter to try? Something to look for? Are they all like this?

This will probably make the coffee weaker, you can compensate by using more coffee but thats probably not what you want - Use two filters one inside the other and rotate one 90 degrees so the holes dont line up exactly. Have you tried the Blueberry Green Tea Frap. While, it doesn't resemble any green tea I've ever had, it is a refreshing summertime beverage. And at a mere $3.50 a pop, who could resist?

I use one of those, and initially had the same problem. As CG suggested, i just don't grind the coffee as fine, and use more of it. Actually tastes better that way (to me at least)...

Was looking at some gold mesh filters online, and they said they were made for medium grind, so I think that's probably what I'll have to do. Damn environment!

This is news to me. I have not had a cup of coffee at McDonald's since the 80s because back then their coffee was comparable to the stuff served at your local neighborhood bar.

LOL well I won't go into MacDonalds anyway, so it's kindof irrelevant to me. X| I've come to the conclusion that Costa seem to do better coffee than Starbucks (too sweet for my taste) and Caffe Nero (just wrong. Even Railway Station buffets are better).

Strange, when I replied to Shog, I never saw your reply. I was wondering why he mentioned you. Even now, your time stamp is 15 minutes after his. :suss: My grounds aren't espresso fine, but they may be finer than medium. Unfortunately, I don't have accurate control on the grinder I have.

Did you get one of the metal mesh filters or cloth? I would suspect the cloth would be finer. Probably not as fine as paper though.

That's why my wife and I frequent a little, personally owned coffee shop in a nearby town, rather than the huge branch of Costa nearby. I've lost count of the number of times the giggly, ever changing teenage staff has messed up our order, whereas the two nice ladies who run the small shop recognise us as regulars (even though we've only been going every Saturday for about a month.) As other people have said in the thread too, proper coffee, hand brewed by experienced baristas on decent equipment makes all the difference when it comes to the quality of the coffee. :)

-- Neil Peartone of the filter manufacturers (can't remember which) uses unbleached paper from sustainable plantations. My cafetiere (sp?) puts fine dregs in the last cup aswell. I need to get a new stove top espresso maker. That, to me, is about the finest coffee you can drink outside a Neapolitan cafe. Can anyone explain what cows have to do with coffee? Russell
