I disagree. If someone had issues with Vista and a specific video card and if I own the same card, it'd be extremely helpful to me if he wrote about it on a blog or on an article. Of course I am talking about rational write-ups and not about the "Vista sucks - no explanation" style articles that /.ers write.

I am so tired of reading negative reviews of Vista by self-proclaimed "experts" who say that Vista is nothing but a new UI slapped onto XP. The ignorance demonstrated by such a view is just too much for me to bear. :sigh: And this type of nonsense is very frequently perpetrated by people who should know better, like enthusiasts such as gamers. Comparisons to OS X really get my goat when people point out that OS X was there first. Is Microsoft just supposed to close up shop and go away because OS X had some of these features first? When people point out that OS X had some of these features first, I just feel like saying, "Yeah, and what's your point?"

You were not angry at the extremely helpful articles, were you? Ignore those that are the result of fanaticism. /. is not a good place to get objective Vista reviews. Thomas

Windows XP is bad. My drivers are not working, then I cannot print, scanning documents, etc... my video card have not updated drivers, then I'm looking my screen now with 800x600, 16bit. No problems... if the I have not purchased that expensive games what requires a lot of resolution, performance, etc, etc. Ok, then lets throw off the games and start to work! I will install Visual Studio and... and... incompatibilities? Ok, some software vendors maybe not updated something to new Windows XP, but, wait? Visual Studio is from Microsoft! So... maybe I can listen some music! I will turn on my speakers and.. what? What this singer is talking about? "Delete My document files"? Noooooooooooooo........ Ok. I'm tired. I will remove Windows XP and re-install Windows98...

For most people like me, it really doesn't matter what reviewers say. Considering you can get IE 7, Windows Defender, Media Center (with the extender) and WMP 11 on XP, what does Vista offer? What can I do with Vista that I can't do with my Media Center PC? I only know of two things, prettier windows and faster searching. No thanks, I'll wait until I buy a new PC.

They are the same people complaining about XP when XP first came out, telling everyone to avoid replacing windows 98 (and laughing at anyone who actually had ME) until XP SP1 came out. They were the same people telling people to switch to classic view because the "shiny new interface" is too slow and confusing and pretty==bad anyhow. From skeptic, to critic, to media, a lot of the same names appear at the OS releases to bash it. Windows 3.0 was copied from Mac, ME was copied again from Mac, and XP was once again copied from Mac, and thus Vista is yet again copied from Mac. If only people would get a Mac and then demand the software companies to support all the software they are used to running on a Mac all would be fine. if only what? hmmmm.... I like Aero, not because it is shiny and new, but because, FRACK, it is about time they finally got a 3D accelerated interface!! Well they copied it from the Mac... no, it was also about time Mac finally did it also. Both have been monumentally overdue for this type of upgrade. Both have been discussing how to make the changes for years. No big secret for either company. I've been watching 3D technology demonstrations from accelerated desktop technology to 3D accelerated adobe PDF and Flash tools. It is about time for those too. :) I am a 3D graphics lobbiest, I want 3D accelerations in all visible parts of a computer operation as well as somehow increasing benefits to all career fields. I haven't quite figured out how 3D graphics can help the chili pickers... but I am sleeping on it nibbling at some ideas... ;) -- modified at 12:15 Thursday 8th February, 2007

It's a new UI slapped onto XP with the added annoyance of UAC and apps and drivers that aren't compatible. There now. A positively qualified comment! Marc

Since I like to play with the shiny new toys as much as the next techie, I for one would welcome a comprehensive list of major new features that let me do things I can't currently do on my XP boxes.

This argument is getting tired also. What can you do with a modern automobile that you can't do with one from the 50's? The one from the 50's accelerates, stops, and turns. Can a modern car do more than that? No, a modern car does basically what a car from the 50's can do. Does this mean a modern car is not a better alternative than one from the 50's?
