Installed Vista Home Premium on an old Laptop :-(
-
And it didn't install the proper graphics driver - it has an ATI Radeon 340M :-( So no Aero Glass :(( It also didn't detect the sound card. And also reports 3-4 unknown devices and I have no idea what they are. Overall it's a little depressing that a designed for XP Professional laptop is so incompatible with the immediate next OS version :-( Basically Vista is the best thing that happened to computer and laptop manufacturers, specially the latter group. The next 2 years will see people buying new machines so they can use an OS that's not 5 years old.

Found on Bash.org [erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.

If it has these as a minimum: 1.A modern processor (at least 800MHz¹). 2.512 MB of system memory. 3.A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable. Then it gets a vista capable sticker on it. Since your laptop is new than it would definetly have these as a minimum So therefore your computer would have a sticker on it.

But does that mean that all the drivers are supported by Vista?

I got most of my Asus A6JA-Hardware running after some search on the net, but there is still no driver for the built-in webcam.

Have you installed Windows vista(Any version) on your laptop Nerotoxic? If you are having problems and/or want to know whether the drivers will work/are supported you should ask the company that created them. Since Windows Vista is Microsoft's new OS(And all the other versions were the same) Some programs/drivers that ran perfectly well in an older version of windows(Any version), will not work/not work properly in vista. For more info on vista go to the microsoft website. Link: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/default.mspx[^]

(*Sample chapter available online*)Interesting I have a 2 year old HP ZD8398ea [^] (hardly a laptop more like a mobile PC, and generates enough heat to make you sterile if you rest it on your lap!), and I have just installed Vista Ultimate and suprisingly enough I got a rating of 3.9 but isn't bad at all.
.net is a box of never ending treasures, every day I get found another gem.

No, I just wondered if it can happen that when you buy a new pc or laptop that says its Vista capable, have drivers/hardware that isn't supported by Vista, can you then return the machine for a refund or is it your problem to get it fixed/working? I've seen a couple of machines that says it's Vista ready but I'm little skeptical to actually find out if it is

The warranty that came with your laptop will tell you what is an acceptable reason for returning your laptop. I'm sure that if you want to, the place you bought this from will give you a refund as long as it hasn't been too long a time between when you purchase this laptop. NOTE: Usually the acceptable refunding time is between 30-90 days. But there is only one way to find out whether drivers are supported or not and that is too actually install vista. And if you have any problem's with installing vista when you do decide too, then you should ring up the Tech support number that came with your computer.
