I have Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux on my desktop computer, and Mac OS X Tiger on my notebook computer. For all personal work, I use either Linux or OS X. In fact, I booted into XP only to check how my website looks in Internet Explorer. Thomas

In China, most people use Windows operating system. Only some develpers use Unix or Linux. Of course, some fans of linux use it too. So my question is that: do you use Windows or Unix/Linux? 我的英语不足以表达出来,受打击了。:(( -- modified at 21:27 Wednesday 7th March, 2007:((:((:((

Why is it so many of my posts begin with that subject line? Although stuck in a C# Windows world I long for the days of Linux.

Both. Work is a .net shop, so we have to use Windows. At home/play, I muck around on Linux, just recently BackTrack2 was released, which is a mighty useful set of tools.

I think you're being a bit naive to believe that most of the rest of the world has no forged stuff being sold. I've seen a fair amount here in Ireland that looks mostly legit, but certainly isn't.

Software pirating is a huge problem in China.

I'm not denying that. I'm just saying that it's a mistake to assume that the rest of the world avoids piracy like the plague. There's a fair bit going on everywhere. It's too easy to apportion blame far away and underestimate the extent to which it's happening closer to home (e.g. "corruption here? But this is the Western world... no way!").

In Brazil, they are sold on every single city, on the biggest streets and avenues, by street merchants ("Need games or programs for your computer, sir?"). No matter which software it is, it costs R$ 5 (around US$ 2). But the copies are clearly pirate, even the sellers say it's pirate software (actually, they use the word "alternative"). No one who uses pirate software can say "hey, I bought this CD and thought that it was legal!". I often see even cops buying music CDs from them, as their salary is very low. :sigh:

                      $0.5 is enough for us.
