So heres the thing, I am a developer with more than 10 years experience and I spend a lot of time wacthing and reading fantasy stuff (talk about stereotyping! :-D). It occured to me this weekend, that in many fantasy books, magic is all about learning a language, and using that language to make something out of nothing. So, in a given situation, I would choose specific words and use those to fix whatever problem I may currently have, for instance an attack by wargs, healing a fellow traveler or, and here's the thing, calculating the current VAT total of a bunch of invoices! Good grief, we are magicians! Now we only need to decide which languages are white magic and which are black magic. And I refuse to be drawn on that subject! Greetings from sunny South Africa!

VB is not magic. It's like Muggles digging a trench with shovels rather than waving a magic wand and conjuring up a bunch of moles to do the digging for you. Marc

Illusionists APPEAR to do magic through prestidigitation and sleight of hand. We are actually creating something from nothing using only words. We are the real deal, magicians. IMHO anyway!

You are right in most cases but I've seen some good illusionists over the years. Usually get promoted and leave us magicians in the trenches.
