Ok, This is probably easy to fix (and maybe a borderline programming question, not sure), but I really wish that they had included a New File template for code snippets in Visual Studio 2005. I know this is a bit whiny, like a rich kid complaining that his dad didn't buy him the right color Ferrari, but why wasn't this included? Snippets are hugely helpful to productivity, so why not make them easier to get working?

None that matter. Of course, free is the best color.

I agree, a lot of times when I'm working with error messages or other text and want to format it while programming I find visual studio to be the best and fastest editor for search and replace etc so nearly every project I have has a scratch.txt file in it for just that reason.

Just open up a blank VS and press Ctrl+N, VS creates a blank "temp" solution but doesn't add thetext file to it.

convenient! in VC6, you just click the "New Text File" toolbar button.

You can in 2005 as well, of course you have to configure the button first  but that's only a few clicks.  What I don't get is the need to create a new solution to "hold" the file.  Although it never actually gets saved.

I just drag and drop a desktop file or something into the ide, or start it in notepad. It'll edit right there and i don't have to save as part of solution. Course i have a few monitors :)
