The source is a USB drive, the destination is a network path. The source was navigated to by simply going to the drive and folder. Source: I:\Toshiba Drive D\projects.net\MyXaml 2.0 Destination: \\kiosk01\c\projects.net2005\public\Myxaml 2.0 Maybe the space in the folder name is making it have fits. At least drag&drop worked! So, I open up a folder on the Vista box, right click on a subfolder and select "copy" I open another folder on a different machine. Right click. Paste is gray. Repeat. Same result. Repeat. Same result. Hmmm, but I can drag and drop between the two folders without any problem. Is there some reason I should continue using this OS, when basic copy and paste folders doesn't even work? Marc

Then you will be able to paste to the destination drive. I found this out the hard way by attempting to copy files from one system to another over a dialup connection. Phil

It's almost certainly a hardware issue, Marc. Replace both machines with big new Vista boxes and i'm sure it'll all work just fine. :rolleyes:

In my experience when working with MS OS platforms and drives that are not internal hard drives, one must wait until the hour glass stops being present by the mouse on the drive you are copying from. Then you will be able to paste to the destination drive. I found this out the hard way by attempting to copy files from one system to another over a dialup connection. Phil

I can understand that. There was no hourglass. The Paste menu, when right-clicking on the destination, was simply gray. Both drives were spun up and I could navigate without delays (this is on an intranet, both boxes sitting on my desk). Marc

The fish thinks "WOW" ... gotta get me that ... and grabs it. In an instance, he's hooked, and being dragged through the water ... unable to stop, unable to get himself off the hook. His world is now a blur. Everything he knew and loved is being left behind, as he is yanked up out of the ocean. Choking. Can't breath ... all the while wondering why the heck he didn't just stay away from the lure to begin with ... Then, without warning, he is beheaded ... disemboweled ... and his lifeless body is then cast to the ground with millions of other fish that made the same mistake. THAT, is the real "Vista" Experience. :-> Now, if you'll all excuse me, I have to go flop around some more...

For some inexplicable reason the hourglass was replaced with a new icon that while shiny is completely nonobvious in meaning. I had to goto the change cursor section of control panel to figure it out.

Nope. I've stopped using it myself and I am happier for it. Using it just felt like I was ice skating uphill. Sure, it has all of the nice shinny things, but logo certified drivers are crap and some of my favorite utilities don't work or are hobbled. My days are too short to have to deal with it.

MS seems to ignore the CTRL+C sometimes even with XP. Its really annoying, but one has to deal with it. I have taken to using the menus or pressing CTRL+C multiple times. This may not help you and your situation, but it doesn't seem like it would hurt it either. Phil

every time my Vista box does an automatic Windows update, it forgets about my second monitor. actually, it forgets about the first, and makes the second the primary, and refuses to acknowledge the first - until i uninstall/reinstall the display driver. quite a treat
