Why aren't there JAVA Boards in CP?

Hmm...I'm looking at my toolbar: MS Powershell, XamlPad, Yahoo Messenger (new one is .NET 3 + WPF), Lutz Reflector, RSS Reader, Visual Studio, IE7, with an XBAP opened in a tab. What CG was talking about was the hideous, non-native UI that Java apps were known for. That doesn't apply to .NET since it's using the native toolkit under the hood.

I disagree! Now, if we're talking tea...

I've been browsing and I saw all these languages and thought that maybe Java plays a big role? Why aren't there JAVA Boards in CP?

That's one. Got anymore? Seriously, outside of dev tools, I can't really think of much of any general purpose end user products that people actually use.

Parts of Visual Studio. I have over 500 users for the RDC software I wrote in C#, and will soon have a similar number for a radiograph viewing program. The point is that Java UI has always sucked in Windows. Oracle, for example. Their DB is fine, but the (Java) client tools are a disaster.

Eclipse[^] and OpenOffice[^] come to mind. But the main use of Java is for web development, not for desktop applications. In term of cost, a servlet-based application is less expensive than an asp.net one.

Actually there is a forum. But no one knows. It is at this location: http://www.codeproject.com/script/comments/forums.asp?forumid=1643&select=1985468&df=100 but i think you just can get there by this link. See you

My advice dude, quit java before it's too late and have C# as an alternative:^) Simply, just go with the flow:->

I have to mention that there are some thinks where java is better than C#. But there are just view. For example it works on all platforms. Also it is good in web programming. Not that i am a fan of java, I also programm C#. :)

A lot of stuff used by banks and the financial industry, including such things as the Asset Control reference-data transformation stuff, which is taking the world by storm (I'll bet you'd all be really surprised if I told you who I'm currently working for). No-one hacks or attacks Java, so the fat blokes in the suits like it.

Well, there aren't Java boards, but just one. One is enough.

Unlikely. :) [rambling] Well, I'm going to say goodnight from this side of the world. Weather here has been absolutely gorgeous. 70's (F), clear skies (except for the contrails), flowers are busting up out of the ground everywhere, etc. After that discussion last week on books, I've decided to persue my personal dreams, and that is, to write a book on Application Development With Interacx. Should be interesting. And with gorgeous weather comes the people washing their cars on their lawns, blasting the car stereo, running the vaccuum cleaner, and leaving the keys in the ignition. Bing-bing, bing-bing, bing-bing. :sigh: [/rambling] Marc

I look forward to seeing it. Still, you'll know when it's successful when you get a "Dummies Guide" to it:-D
Deja View - the feeling that you've seen this post before.

I was shocked by this question until I read further. You meant Fat Client or single user apps. The number of apps written still doesn't come into it. CodeProject is a .Net resource. .Net does not support Java (no J# is not Java, it's just silly). Therefore there are not any Java Forums on CP. One should look elsewhere to learn more about Java. As to the number of apps written in argument, if you pick the app type carefully you can support any number of applications. The most common Windows Server base Commercial Web Application platform is Java, for instance. Note that does not make it the most common Web Application platform :-).
Tanks for your support

With .NET completely integrated into C#, Java stands nowhere.

I use nant, nunit and log4net for C# developement. Those are directly derived from ant, junit and log4j which I use for java developement. nunit is certainly cheaper than Team Foundation. I have used jboss and tomcat in windows. I don't know of any equivalent product for C#.
