My earliest memory of a Blackberry is seeing Dave using it and struggling to make a call (I think he was trying to make a call, but he may have been trying something else too) because the buttons were too small for his fingers :-) And now you've fallen for all the tiny buttons too, haven't you?

I did the unthinkable this morning: I plugged my new Blackberry into my computer's USB port without first installing the drivers. My computer promptly exploded. Well, not exploded. More sort of died instantly and let forth a pungent "something's burning" smell. Nothing would coax it back to life so I've spent the afternoon transplanting my hard drives into another machine, doing an XP reinstall/restore and trying to coax my data back to life. Everything seems mostly fine except that IE6 crashes each time it tries to install the latest Microsoft Update ActiveX control. :sigh: The Blackberry is untouched.

Honestly Lauren, I don't know how things are done where you live, but it's *much* easier to drink tea if you simply put it in a cup first, and then sip gently. Trying to drink tea from your screen will always be problematic, though it does paint an interesting mental picture...

:laugh: Sorry to laugh Chris, I just love the way you wrote that; My computer promptly exploded. Funnily enough I plugged my Nokia into my Mac for the first time the other day and my Mac froze up. Previous to that I had been using Bluetooth but thought USB would be a wee bit faster for transferring a 1gig file. Your Blackberry melted your computer, my Nokia froze my Mac. Go figure.

and Friday nVidia cards froze Linux. :) In the end all Operating Systems are at the mercy of device drivers... and the programmers who write them.... no wonder the mutant sea bass are ill tempered... :-D

What I don't understand is how merely connecting the device to the USB port caused the computer to go up. Worst case I would have expected it to just do nothing.. but to actually cause the mobo to fry? Just don't get it..

Happened to me a month ago with a USB Memory Stick that I had previously used in the same machine. I plugged it it, there was a fizzle as I did, a bit of a pop and no more PC, the MOBO was fried. Unfortunately for me the crash completely corrupted the (non RAID) hard disk and I only got to recover about 50% of the data that was on it too. I would suspect this is possible on any powered USB port as there is always the potential to cause a short when conecting a device, although I am certainly no expert in this area...
