My life is not mundane, but then again, I don't watch TV or very many movies, so my measure of mundane is not biased by superheros, 2D cartoon characters, or people stuck on islands with great healthcare plans. :) Marc

Amen to that. Visually I couldn't fault it but the massacring of the plot was unforgivable. The online game[^] fits the original plot much more closely.

And my god are they good films. With the structure, depth, and realism of the books are added superb direction, and for kids, good acting. Particularly the dragon vs broomstick sequence where the dragon is climbing around the roof of a spire to get to Harry. Very gritty, very real.

I was quite forced into the theater by a friend to go and watch LOTR. I found the movies good because there was nothing missing to make it a complete and entertaining story. I did not expect the movie to render everything from the book (I would not want to sit 60 hours in the theater), of course. Making such a movie is real hard, and I appreciated the result. As for T2, I found the storyline in the movie far better than in the book, the latter being sometimes not logical at all, especially concerning Sarah's past.

Yah, but the movie is not a representation of the book, it is just another telling of the same story. when you tell two people to write something down, they write down what you tell them to, but it still wil be diffrent than what you told them.

Not sure if you have read the books. Movie four was a big disappointment for us book fans because they had to cut out so much from the book. In the book the Quiddich World Cup is over 100 pages long and the movie cut it to about 10 minutes.

Sure, but that book was three times the size of the first three. They had to cut alot of stuff. I am not a Harry Potter fan, but I have huge respect for her writing skills. What I liked about the movie was the way it was made, the quality of it, and that it follwed the spirit of the book closely and that it was a mature filem, not affraid to tackle sensitive issues, and not suffering from political correctness. That, as a film, it would sell widely abroad, and that it shows that there is still massive tallent in the British Film industry beyond Hugh Grant.

Personally, I've never been able to finish the Lord of the Rings books. I always seem to get partway through the second book, put it down and just never pick it up again. This is not because I don't like reading, or am a slow reader or anything else - it's because the books just aren't that great. The movies on the other hand, are extremely good - and I am not usually one to prefer the movie over the book.
