Good Help Authoring System ?
-
Hi everyone, And no this is not a programming question :) I need to create some help files for a few utilities I have written and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good help authoring system that is reaonably priced, i.e. NOT robohelp..... Only proviso is that it has to support generation of .chm and .html and preferably .xml help file formats. Kind of thing I am looking for can be a wrapper around the Microsoft Help Compiler, but I don't mind paying for something that's good. Unless there is an open source solution ? regards

I use FAR [^] for Awasu's help which has been pretty good for us.
I enjoy occasionally wandering around randomly, and often find that when I do so, I get to where I wanted to be [^]. Awasu 2.3 [^]: A free RSS/Atom feed reader with support for Code Project. 50% discount on the paid editions for CP members!

Help & Manual is excellent.

If you are comfortable with writing HTML, you should use FAR. Otherwise, Help & Manual looks good. The only problem I have with the latter is quality of embedded formulas (using MS formula editor), and editing tables is a bit more painful than in frontpage/word.
We are a big screwed up dysfunctional psychotic happy family - some more screwed up, others more happy, but everybody's psychotic joint venture definition of CP

Thanks Hans, This looks really good actually and pretty much does everything I'd want.

I've used DocBook[^] through this (open source) toolset[^] to produce HTML, CHM and PDF versions of help/documentation. We got good results, but it does need quite a bit of setting up!
