How difficult do u think computer science is?

I think computer science(ofcourse coupled with discreet mathematics) is the most difficult subject in all of academia. What do u think?
I'd have to disagree: Electrical Engineering? Physics? Blech. Those two subjects (particularly advanced Physics) gave me the biggest headaches. EE was manageable, just a whole lot of work for something I wasn't too interested in. :) Jon Sagara "I am in a race. I'm weening!"

I think that's an arrogant view, and completely false. Computing is relatively *easy*, I'd choose it over any number of other sciences. For starters, we have full control over it, any physical science is far more complex because the systems are more complex and out of our control. Christian I am completely intolerant of stupidity. Stupidity is, of course, anything that doesn't conform to my way of thinking. - Jamie Hale - 29/05/2002

Electrical Engineering was much more difficult than CS. I thought discrete mathematics was one of the easiest subjects that I took. Semiconductor theory was the subject that I thought was the most difficult. Our exams were open book and open notes, and 35% got you an A. I managed a C.. John

Edd wrote: Physics is not very difficult I really have to disagree with you on that statement. Question: What do you consider Physics. If you are thinking of High School and 1 year college classes fine. But if you really get into things. Like molecular bonding in dissimlar metals --> leading to understanding fracture mechanics. I think you need to reconsider. To be conscious that you are ignorant of the facts is a great step towards Knowledge. Benjamin Disraeli

I agree physics is much more than f=ma type of stuff you learn in introductory classes. I remember a class I had on electromagnetic theory that I had in the physics department that was quite challenging, although it was in no way as hard as semiconductor theory. John

of course it all depends on the individual... but personally, i think physics is a far more difficult subject than CS, as is pure mathematics and medieval romanian history. CS was a breeze, for me. i actually liked the discrete math - it was the physics that gave me headaches. -c

Edd wrote: I think computer science(ofcourse coupled with discreet mathematics) is the most difficult subject in all of academia. What do u think? Depends from person to person... Some think that math is easy... and some find it really painfull... Some find statistics cool and interesting... some find it painfull... Some like to open a dead body to study its internal parts... some find it really disgusting... It´s just a matter of choice and personality... In my case... I prefered to go on Administration scholl rather than Comp. Science because I find it much more interesting... The computer stuff I studied by my own.... :-D Mauricio Ritter - Brazil Sonorking now: 100.13560 Trank  The alcohol is one of the greatest enemys of man, but a man who flee from his enemys is a coward.

Not that hard IMHO. Once you toss out a lot of the crap liberal arts stuff. Ignore the business schools and get right down to the sciences, CS ranks low compared to most other sciences. Tim Smith I know what you're thinking punk, you're thinking did he spell check this document? Well, to tell you the truth I kinda forgot myself in all this excitement. But being this here's CodeProject, the most powerful forums in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question, Do I feel lucky? Well do ya punk?

I have degrees in engineering and a degree in computer science. Trust me, getting a BS in computer science is a cake walk compared to getting a BS in almost any engineering field (and computer science pays better).

Edd wrote: EE and CS are cousins And...? I actually have to disagree because EE is a very diverse field. How do microwave transmissions relate to computer science, other than the fact that you need software to control the systems? Jon Sagara "I am in a race. I'm weening!"

Computer science can't hold a candle to any Engineering studies, which all necessarily include advanced maths, physics, and chemistry, in addition to highly specialized engineering courses. While I was in college there was an attempt to water down the curriculum and grant a BS Computer Eng, as it was too hard to find students capable of passing the normal courses. Fortunately my entrance paperwork was interpreted as a contract by the school, and when I threw a fit, they agreed to continue to offer the required advanced courses I needed for my BSEEE until I graduated. Looking back, I'd do the same, even though the BSCE would have saved me a couple of years of grueling mental effort, and I'd have a better shot at being gainfully employed today.:) "What is it?" and he said, "I don't know. Not really. Theoritical Physics, Advanced Mathematics, Genetics, Molecular Biology(spelling??) all these are in my opinion much tougher than CS. May the Source be with you Sonork ID 100.9997 sijinjoseph
