I have just bought a 6-week old black Pug puppy... One thing really worries me is that, he keeps biting my fingers and clothes when I try to hold him! Is that normal? :~ EDIT: By the way, he just poo-ed on the floor! :mad: How do I train him not to do that?

That's what puppies do. If it's not your fingers, it will be anything else he can find...just one of the many ways that puppies and teething toddlers are the same. Give him some chew toys and discipline him when he chews on the wrong thing.

That's what puppies do. If it's not your fingers, it will be anything else he can find...just one of the many ways that puppies and teething toddlers are the same. Give him some chew toys and discipline him when he chews on the wrong thing.

Yes, that's very normal. Nylabones are about the coolest thing you will ever find. Contrary to what many think they are great for dogs and especially puppies that like to chew they are flavored plastic bones that are tough as nails but great for dog teeth. For about the first month you need to try and let them outside every 2 hours. At night every 4 hours. This trains them to 'go' outside not inside. Keep them out until they go. It's a PITA but it pays off pretty quick. Pugs are very cool and smart so you won't have too much trouble with him.

Good luck with the dog. Remember, it is a full time commitment for the years you have with the little guy especially when they are puppies, but it really pays off. My wife has forbidden us from getting a pug because she is afraid its eyes will pop out of its head.

I live in appartment, so sadly going outside is not an option. The pet shop staff told me to get the blueish paper pad, and try to paper train him. So for now, I put that paper pad on the floor, but eventually I'll get a basket, and put that paper pad in.

I'm doing as much research as I can right now, I've bought a book about pugs, and registered a pugs owner forum and asking questions, and learning. But it seems to be so much work to do... :sigh:

I have to wonder how much thought went into buying this puppy if you are already wondering if you are going to regret it... We are waiting for a puppy from a registered breeder of our choice of dog(have been waiting for 2 years), but no doubt will have similar thoughts once we get our biting pooh-machine home...

Depends on the breed, but 15 is a long life for most dogs. Were you thinking of cats? :~

He is just playful. If you don't like it, have him trained. He is still young enough to learn quickly.

OK, here's what you do: Get a good book or raising a dog. READ IT! And make some saving already - vets are expensive ;)

My dog survived only for 7 years. Life of dog mainly depends on breed. My dog was cross of German shepherd and country dog

Tell him off, give him a clip across the nose.

Tell him off, give him a clip across the nose. Don't be afraid to tell him off, just make sure that you do it for a reason otherwise he'll start to mistrust you.
