looking for a combined webhosting/domain name package, needs to be as cheap as possible. Not looking for anything fancy at all, just some webspace to stick some pages up and some email forwarding. Will need them to register a .com domain and point it to the website. I'm in the UK if that makes any difference. Can I get anything for £30-40ish a year? needs to be cheap, it's for a very small club. ta,

I did a similar thing for a local cricket club, that site is hosted with GoDaddy and the domain is registered with them too, was ~£60 for three years but I think they had a deal on where you got three years for two.  Has databases as well, not sure about email side of things but I imagine you can set up the forwarding, I've just changed the MX records so that it use Google Apps which are far superior.

https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/[^] They are a pay as you go, and you can pretty much put down as much or as little as you want. I'm using them, and have never had any problems, they are also fairly competitive with domain-name registering. (I think it was about $7US/year) If you need email, definately go with google apps http://www.google.com/a/[^]. It's free, and you get a gmail-like interface.

NEVER, EVER register your domain name with your host. If you ever have an issue with your host, they can hold your domain name hostage. If you're looking for cheap domain names, there are plenty of registrars with low prices (I use Namecheap.com - $8.88 per year)

I've used WebHost4Life for years now. Cheap, works fine, good customer service. I tend to register my domains with a seperate registrar. Cheers, Drew.

I was absolutely blown away at the prices here: https://www.hostingdiscounter.nl/[^] I only use my site as a dump for weird stuff I've written and haven't sold (either because I didn't want to sell it, or because the target publisher didn't want it), so I didn't want to spend a fortune on it. Setting up domain names is cheap as dirt, too, and all taken care of by them. My initial setup (including a new domain name, because my previous host screwed up the DNS for mwallace.net) was about EUR45, and I'm paying EUR5 a month (around three quid). For those prices, I was expecting the server to be slow, but it's as fast as any other I've used.

The same would wherever you registered your domain. If you registered your domain with a different company, and you have an issue with them, they could also hold your domain name hostage. :)

I also have an account with WebHost4Life. Although they at time seem less than perfect (server is sometimes a little unresponsive, lost emails) they do have a LOT of features for the package, including unlimited subdomains, etc. I only wish I could have unlimited domains for a package, like my previous host 1and1 allowed, but I needed ASP.NET. If you don't need ASP.NET I would definitely recommend 1and1.com[^], they have extremely good servers and the cheapest domains anywhere $6.99/yr. I've registered over 30 domains with them and have never had a problem. I'm just waiting for them to announce a reasonable ASP.NET package... currently the cheapest is $20/mo X| But you can get a cheap package for about 3.99/mo.

When that's happened to me, I've requested a move to a different server which they've done. Worked out well.

For me, ASP.NET and MSSQL are what I use, so 1and1 is out. Cheers, Drew.
