I have recently began my first job as CE 6.0 R&D, and development for such system. We start at 7:00 AM, which is much earlier than I am used to getting up. So, as others in the office have suggested, I have began making use of the never never ending amount of coffee here. I have drank about 3 cups of coffee, at about 12 ounces a cup. How much coffee do the CPians drink on a given day?

Huh, but which *type* of coffee? I mean: I only drink 'Italian Espresso' (unfortunately, I'm Italian :sigh:). If I drink any other type, the amount of caffeine (or cadmium? :~ ) is too much lower, and quickly I get headache.... "At my signal, unleash hell!" The Gladiator

My only caffeine is one or two small squares of dark chocolate per day. I drink peppermint tea or water. I start work at 7.30 and usually continue until about 18.00. If I have a (Friday) pint of beer at lunchtime, I get a little sleepy after it. I've had exactly 3 coffees in my life (two at university in the States, one in the former Yugoslavia). My body doesn't need the stuff.

        0. I've never liked coffee. I used to drink exorbitant amounts of Mountain Dew (lots of caffeine there), but I've since given that up. So, no caffeine in the morning for me no matter how early. Now if you'll pardon me, I'm going to take a nap on my desk. ;)

And I am sorry, I'll nap on office sofa now :P And still no caffeine consumption today because my boss said 'if you feel very tired then you may take a nap'

Well..... lets see, I have a cup the moment I get to work... that allows me just enough mental agility to move the mouse and disable the screensaver (we never turn off our pc's) ... then - once the screen is showing and I can see just what horribly complex task Im faced with, I go for another cup or two to help me remember where I was last (in the code)... once I've identified the bit of code I was working with , I assess the complexity and finer details whilst sipping another cup - which helps alot when it comes to assessing complexity and finer details... Once I've gotten through those initial 'wake up cups' I generally start bagning out code, and I get really focussed and lose all track of time, so at luchtime (which I dont use for eating) I go and have one or two excrutialingly strong cups which would make anybody else's eyes water and heart skip a few beats ... I have another three to four cups for the rest of the working day and maybe one or two 'not so strong' cups when I get home... so I don't drink 'that uch' coffe - just enough to keep me going...

My youngest daughter used to work in Starbucks (High School->College breaks). The policy of that particular store was free beverages for the immediate family. In addition, all the stores have a policy of 'mark out' - which is, after an employee works a certain number of hours, they can 'mark out' (take home) a 1 lb (454 gm) bag of coffee. So, my household stash grew . . . I was doing ca. 5 (+/- 1) cups/day. Just for the sheer joy of it (I'm one of those who can sleep after coffee). Then it happened. Blood Pressure began to rise. Stayed up more and more of the time. So, now, I'm down to a single cup of foul brew supplied by my current employer, M-F - which I will seek as soon as I post this tome. The rest is decaf (Goya Expresso) Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Letters of sympathy will, in fact, be appreciated. Letters of contempt, too.

I to used to drink about 3-5 cups during the day and on the weekend the equivalent of 1 POT. Only because I like the taste of coffee, but recently I've decided to cut down on the coffee big time and all caffeine for that matter. I have a link on my blog to a Caffeine Database; you'd be surprised how much caffeine is in different drinks. lspence.blogspot.com

Sorry to introduce reality, but if you really want to wake up try Orange Juice (or something else with Citric Acid). Caffeine is a stimulant, it doesn't actually wake you up, though it will keep you up.

I drink what my coffee maker calls 4 cups twice a day. I think it is more like 3 normal sized mugs. Then about 4 cans of coke a day.

I used to average a 12 pack of soda a day. I'd occasionally have coffee in the winter to warm up. And I'd have almost no water. I now do one or two a day sodas a day, usually have 2 or 3 cups of coffee and 2 to 4 20oz cups of water.

1~3 cup (12oz) + alpha Ok, here is my day. I brew coffee between 7 and 7:30am or whenever I got my workplace. In most cases, I am the only one who drink it in my team. ("it" means dropping coffee in the pot, not like Starbucks or their-home-brewed-coffee) It is depend on my day, but I usually empty the pot, which is about 6 to 8 cup size. And I drink my coffee-aa-in drink (in other words, energy drink). Well, overall... I am drinking about 6 ~ 12 cups of coffee (if it is 8oz cup). :~ Only the problem is ... I am still sleeeeeeeeeepy.

I used to drink a ton, but have since stopped almost entirely. Now I drink tea. It is much more enjoyable and relaxing and gives me something to look forward to in the mornings (like coffee would) but without the nervous jitters coffee would give me. I still like a cup of Starbucks now and then, but while I'm at "the office" (at home) I prefer tea. I drink about 4-5 cups of tea on a good day. I'm becoming quite the expert! My favorites right now are South African Kwazulu (a potent, smooth black tea) with a lot of milk in the mornings, and Japanese Sen-Cha (plain) in the afternoon or after dinner. Never put sugar in tea, just milk if it's black. Good stuff.

Good stuff.

P.S. Check out the effect of caffeine on spiders[^] if you really want to be freaked out.

Sorry to introduce reality, but if you really want to wake up try Orange Juice (or something else with Citric Acid). Caffeine is a stimulant, it doesn't actually wake you up, though it will keep you up.

When I need to get up earlier, I just go to bed earlier the night before. I discovered when I make sleep a priority and make sure I get at least 8 hours of it every night that I am well rested the following day. I also don't drink alcohol during the week because alcohol reduces the quality of sleep.
