I'd really love to play with WPF, simply because a "more webbish approach" would be perfect for an idea I've been pushing around. But frankly, I'm sick sick sick sick to death of the all-promise, crawling-on-your-knees experience* of beta software that takes hours to fail to install mess up your machine, and gets you stuck and frustrated on the simplest steps. The new stuff is fun only if you are into new stuff for the sake of it. Thank you for listening. *) that scene from "dead men don't wear plaid" comes to mind

My first real C# project | Linkify!|FoldWithUs! | sighistI am working with WPF for a few months now and I have to say that the 'wow this is great' factor only slightly wins over the 'OMG, how often is this damn VS beta crashing' factor. On the other hand this is the same situation with Vista, which isn't a beta...

My first real C# project | Linkify!|FoldWithUs! | sighistYeah, I know what you mean ... I saw a presentation last week on WPF, and some of the stuff was amazing. The one thing that sticks in my mind above all else, was the part where the guy rotated a movie (while it was playing) through 360 degrees using a slider control bound to the angle of the movie (0-360). It didn't pause to redraw, there were no rendering artifacts and the movie would quite happily play at any angle (with perfect transparency around the edges when at a non-orthogonal angle) - and all without writing a single line of "code". Quite simply, it would take months of hacking away at the lowest levels of C++ to get anything to work like that. On the other hand, it was recommended to install the tools into a virtual machine, so that it wouldnt trash your Windows install. :(

Huh, I don't understand these comments about Vista at all (not just yours, I've seen others make little side comments like this here before), I've been using it as my only OS for both development and fun stuff for months now with no issues aside from a few minor annoyances but zero crashes at all.

I don't rant randomly and I don't blame everything on MS or Vista. who knows what the causes of the issues on my machine are but fact is that it sometimes takes up to four seconds for the start menu to open, that the explorer crashes several times a day for no apparent reason, that the clock in the taskbar stopped refreshing on multiple occasions and that the performance of explorer and the start menu is just ridiculous... :| I guess you can just read through this rants with a grin and be happy that it works fine for you...

Yeah I wouldn't put up with that for any time at all. Sounds like your machine has serious problems with something but I can assure you it's not Vista itself, likely drivers or lack of resources or something.

Amen, thank you!!! The same with me, I liked XP Pro allot, but I got involved with Vista during the Beta 1 Public and worked with all of the Betas and Release Candidates where I learned lots about the system. I am presently running Vista Ultimate, (started with Business and then upgraded), and I have only experienced 2 system crashes since starting to use "Business", in February. :)
