... so, yesterday I assembled my new computer (Q6600 based), overclocked it from 2.4GHz to 3.15GHz --- as far as I intend to go for now, as it's still silent. RAID'ed the hard disks, Overclocked the RAM from 800MHz to 1066MHz After a bit of time "soak testing" (my wife still thinks I was playing games) I finally get to install some serious software! After extracting the Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 ISO to a spare HD, I click on Setup.... 12.6GHz of horsepower and Visual Studio installations still take an age! Over 20 minutes so far to install the .NET 3.5 framework - CPU usage is 1%, disk usage is almost non-existant, hardly any memory allocations.... has the programmer for the installer simply added "Sleep(10000)" commands at the end of each of his loops?

Q6600 is the Quad version of the E6600 - e.g. same clock speed. .. I need a good pay cheque too (sorry, no offence, I can't write "cheque" as "check" although I'm happy to let spelling variations exist between US-English and English) but was so in need of an upgrade (from a 3400+ Athlon). ... Actually, my wife kept commenting how bad the old machine was and basically told me to upgrade ! ;-)

Don't worry about the check/cheque spelling :) I tend to be able to read right through US/UK English.

There seems to be some oddity with certificate verificastion going on (COuld someone verify or disprove that?)I rememebr someone mentioning it checks the cert for each item extracted, And depending on some settings this can be horribly slow.

Same thing going on in the upper midwest here in the states. At my favorite lake for water skiing, the water level was down 6 feet at the dock today =( It was a beautiful day for skiing though, had a heck of a weekend! :-D
