Unless some next version of windows will be entirely based on .net we will still need from time to time to use win32 even if we are .net programmers.

We'll all get hooked on .NET then something else will come along.

An operating system based on .NET needs the .NET virtual machine. The VM needs to run on an OS. An .NET based OS needs the VM, the VM needs an OS, the OS ... ... ... How long will the installation of an infinite number of components block my new computer?

will make hardware access and control fun. when it all comes down to it.. there just binary files, so as long as the computer systems dont change from binary im happy with any language :) an OS built on .NET...... thats a scary idea, think its one for coding horrors or the next block buster horror film. p.s i'm not an adv .net programmer but im pretty sure that direct hardware/memory management isnt possible in .net yet? am i right or wrong? :)

Yes, 'is Win32 dead' will be a stupid question so long as we're using Windows. WPF will perhaps hide it a little better, but it will still be there.

And then you will have to change your nic to norm .net++ or whatever the new technology is

Anything I will say you will bring it down to whatever you want.
