Mailing list software/service [modified]
-
My mom runs an organization with 1400+ members in it. She has to send out many emails, sometimes to all members. However, her email provider limits her to sending to only 100 recipients at a time. It's becoming a hassle for her distribute information. I had thought about mailing list software that runs locally, but there would probably be issues with blocked ports. So what I'm looking for, I guess, is an online service that can import her Outlook contacts and mailing lists and allow her to send these mass emails to the members. Can anyone recommend such a service? Thank you! -- modified at 17:14 Wednesday 15th August, 2007 FYI, in case anyone is interested: This one is pretty close, but it's more than her organization wants to spend. http://www.constantcontact.com/email-marketing/index.jsp[^]

Check out www.clubsec.info When doing multiple mails you can set the number of recipients per message depending on what your software/server allows. Rich

Yup. Even if the server receives one message with multiple addresses, it will still need to send a copy to each and every recipient. I suppose a server could optimize the forwarding a bit and send only one copy for each domain, and let the recipient's server do the copying. If a huge majority of the users of this mailing list are on hotmail.com, yahoo.com, etc, then it might work.

So what you're saying is that if I sat down with Outlook and created a message for each person in my company, the e-mail server would eventually stop sending those out because it would recognize that the same message is being sent to the same domain (i.e., is keeping a count)? I find that very hard to believe.

(moved - replied to the wrong thread!) I run a similar service for a few friends and family members. In fact, one person liked it so much they have tried selling it to other local businesses (http://countertopmarketing.com). So far, it hasn't made me any money, but it's a fun side project. The business model he has set up is a little different (we also do data entry), so the pricing as it stands is likely not what she is looking for; but I'd be willing to work something out with her. As for getting the contacts out of outlook, that's pretty easy. She would just need to export them to a comma delimited file. We have a few companies that have way more contacts, so 1400 shouldn't be an issue. Shoot me an email, and we can chat about it: darin!ctmkt.com (replace ! with @)

Probably not, because you probably don't have a limitation on your email account. A copy for each recipient would be put in respective mailbox. I thought we were talking in the context of Jon's mother's email service provider, and how such a provider would implement their limitation strategy...?

I was referring to his "However, her email provider limits her to sending to only 100 recipients at a time" comment. I suggested rather than create one message with multiple recipients, to create one message with one recipient multiple times. You indicated that this would not work.

Sorry 'bout that. Sometimes my grammar can be confusing.

Uninstall your firewall and antivirus software, and you'll have a dozen of them up and running within a week, with no effort on your part.
