Certificate problems

I moved to IE7 on XP, and I suddenly find that any secure site I try to use, tells me it has certificate problems. I also constantly get messages about javascript errors, although I suspect this is because I turn on 'show all errors', as I am testing my own web code. I suspect lots of people have generated their own certificates, are other people finding hte same thing ?

There is a Windows update that is supposed to address certificate problems you don't see until you install IE7. Check windows update to make sure you have the latest patches. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you.. I've never had a problem with it, although I have probably only used it a dozen times since I installed it several months ago.

I use IE7 and have had no certificate problems so far. I use the normal banking sites, can log into hotmail etc. What certificate problems are you getting? If you check the certification path, has your browser installed the root certificates? I haven't had any javascript errors, my unresolved problem is that images don't show up on some sites, (yes - I have Show Pictures enabled). I think I had a problem like this a looong time ago. Try clearing your cache.

Make sure your system clock is correct. Certificates have an expiry date. Also check that you haven't enabled the 'Turn Off Automatic Root Certificate Updates' policy - some of the root certificates which shipped with Windows XP have now expired, and you should update them. If you haven't got the latest ones, there should be a 'Root Certificate Update' available on Windows Update, but I think you have to click Custom rather than Express and look under Other Updates.
