I am sure to get a beating around here for saying this but if I didn't have an iPhone I'd be buying myself an iPod Touch[^]. Anyone got a Zune they want to drown?

My 3.5 year old Dell DJ 15gb (Gen 1) is on its last legs. The buttons are flaky and the battery life is sad. Soon it will be time to replace it. While I know I won't be getting a Zune, I'm not sure if I should go with an iPod Nano or the Sandisk equivalent. I'm probably too cheap to get the iPod Touch. Hmmmmm.....

I *love* my Creative Zen W. The screen is as big as those on airlines, I line up a few movies and can watch whatever I like, if the in flight movies suck. I have a Muvo for really portable music, they are dirt cheap and work great.

The title was really the only possibly dirty part of that song, and of course the lead singers voice. :)

yeah... I imagined she was using an iPod Touch system when she thinks about her boyfriend.... yeah... that was what the lyrics were about I knew it even back then.... ;P If only I had thought to patent the iPod Touch when the song came out....

I have to admit that Apple hardware is getting better with every revision, prices become more reasonable as well. However, there are still two big show stoppers for me. One is stupid iTunes which must be installed in order to use iPod along with a set of bugs and glitches and second, the 5th generation iPod that I heard had a moderately loud operating hum which is also a no-go for me.

If it can be deliberately manipulated by hand my pocket cruft will manage to do the same every few hours. Said cruft will also work the screen over as if it were 80-120grit sand paper.

I see where Apple has lowered the price of their high-end model, and are discontinuing their low-end model. And the new iPods can hold 40,000 songs! Who in the world has that many?!?

FWIW, I've got a 2G nano I bought for $147. I like it a lot. Sound quality is great, navigation is simple. My only complaint is that it can be difficult to turn off (you have to press and hold on a particular spot on the wheel).

Yeah, my daughter has a 4G Nano (Gen 1) and my wife has a 8G Nano (Gen 2). I'll probably end up with a Gen 3 Nano myself. My son is the freak with the Zune. ;)

Not happened with the iPhone yet. Keep it in my back jeans pocket most of the day. Sit on it, store keys with it, coins jingling around. I even dropped the frikking thing the other day. Not a scratch on the glass yet and just a scuff on the back from when I dropped it. I was skeptical of wear and tear on it but have been proven wrong. Oh, and never once accidentally activated. It is sounder than the Nokia keypad method.

Looks like my Creative Zen W with a bigger price and some annoying extras. I was contemplating a Mac notebook, recently, until I realised just how much more I would be paying for the odd instance that I'd use the Mac side of it. The jury is still out if the next notebook will run Vista, I am suspecting it will be dual boot.

Care to elaborate? Just curious. I find Apple do a good job of not cluttering their devices while other companies put all sorts of useless crap on them.

Sure, if you are a Windows man then it isn't for you. You'd get annoyed with the Apple key, one button trackpad and the function keys if you lived in Windows all day on a Macbook Pro.

If you can live with 8gb instead of 15gb then the last generation nano is fantastic. Small, fast, usable and solid. And you can probably pick one up cheap off of eBay now. I'm not that keen on the new nano's design, bit of an ugly duckling.

Darned similar I'd say. Bet the hacker boys will have SSH, Apache, SFTP and all that on the iPod Touch within days.

I see where Apple has lowered the price of their high-end model, and are discontinuing their low-end model. And the new iPods can hold 40,000 songs! Who in the world has that many?!?

Man, its video these kids want these days. "Music? WTF, it doesn't have moving images with it! How am I supposed to know the lyrics if I can't read their lips huh?"

Well, I'm an iTunes user. The thing works. Never crashed on me or had any bugs. Simpler and better than Windows Media Player or anything else I've tried. There is alternative software though. Apps that sync your music to the iPod etc. but that aren't iTunes. Not terribly official and new iPods take awhile to get supported.

Never actually owned a full sized iPod. Had the nano which never hummed and the iPhone doesn't humm.

I am sure to get a beating around here for saying this but if I didn't have an iPhone I'd be buying myself an iPod Touch[^]. Anyone got a Zune they want to drown?
