actually... yes, and a shuttle from star-trek (new and old), dragons, butterflies, fighter planes, and stunt planes, bi-wings, tri-wings, insects, fish, and people. :) Origami is a major hobby. :)

I just picked up a paper clip from my desk and bent it into a neat little open-sided square. It then occurred to me, that I don't think I've ever used a paper clip for its intended purpose. I've fashioned all sorts of useful things out of paper clips, but never once have I used one to hold pieces of paper together! Here's a few things I've made recently from paper clips. I'm sure there are plenty of other uses... - Tool to eject stuck CD/DVD's from the drive (#1 use, right there!) - Many different forms of hooks, from Xmas tree decorations to cube-wall hooks. - Screw holders for holding small screws in hard-to-reach places. Once the thread has started to bite, you can simply unhook the paperclip. - temperature probe holder - modern art

Color me jealous. I've always thought origami was :cool:, but never took the time to learn anything beyond the basic folds. I'm good for a crane and that's about it :-O.

delete this;I may specialize my career, but I do some pretty strange things in life! :) specialization is for insects! :laugh: by the way, the dragons are of my own design, dolphin, and star trek stuff. I graduated into making my own designs for origami in college.

I've heard that you can hold extremely short hand-rolled "cigarettes" with such a device too. Not that I've done that, I'm just sayin', you know. I read it on the internet or something, right?

In Norway they are very proud of having invented the Paperclip. If I remember rightly there's even a Paperclip museum somewhere but we never found it.:)

A Norwegian, Johan Vaaler (1866-1910), has erroneously been identified as the inventor of the paper clip. He was granted patents in Germany (1899) and in the United States (1901) for a paper clip of similar design, but less functional and practical, because it lacked the last turn of the wire. Vaaler probably did not know that a better product was already on the market, although not yet in Norway. His version was never manufactured and never marketed because the superior "Gem" was already available.-Randor (Currently living in Norway!) -

My favourite use was as an RS232 loop back connector, i.e. jam it between pins 2 and 3. It has saved me hours of time.

This should undoubtedly be a matter of wider public knowledge in Norway. Norwegianess itself is a sufficiently notable invention to make the paperclip pale into insignificance by comparison, and one worth celebrating whenever possible.
