We'll have to see :) I've got a buddy who is from Pittsburgh and grew up in Chicago, so his dream Superbowl is Bears/Steelers matchup. Not sure how the Steelers are going to fare this year. My wife is from Cleveland so she's ready for today's Browns/Steelers matchup.

I plan on releasing JSNFL07[^]after the 1st or 2nd week. I have to wait until the first week of statistics become available so I can make sure the downloading of statistics run smoothly. After that, the software will run formulas and spit out educated guesses on who the game should go according to the stats. Its good for football pools, it can display the whole week's games at once or just a single game.

What a time to start (coincide with RWC)! (Ok Technically it began on Thursday.) So do you care about NFL? Are you a football fan? Which team are you supporting? I am with Indianapolis (AFC) and Atlanta (NFC now that Michael Vick has gone we may have some chance to go to playoffs).

That sounds really cool. I've hacked around in Excel with things like schedule strength and other stats to try to give her an edge at work. Her being a big Browns fan, and they end up winning a game they aren't supposed to, ends up being a pool tie breaker sometimes :->

I've used JSNFLxx in the past to generate tie breaker points and it works well since it does all the average calculations for you very fast. It can provide a nice over-view of the game. I read once that it is not wise to place any money on the games until after the fourth week, when there is enough statistical data. Otherwise, the numbers it generates are more unrealiable than those generated after the fourth week of play.

I agree. It seems like the first several weeks is just based on gut instinct and betting on favorite teams. Really can't judge a team by its pre-season performances. Sometimes it winds up being looking at historical rivalries and the general outcomes.

I'm an NFL fan only to the point that I enjoy Fantasy Football.

I absolutely, utterly, could not care one iota less about football. Or baseball. Or basketball. Or soccer. Or tennis. Or any other professional sport. I personally do enjoy playing tennis, soccer, and going biking. Marc

I love watching all the games on Sundays, but I'm not really a huge NFL fan all the same. College football is far and away more entertaining to watch (and attend) than NFL games. The NFL guys are just too good - every game quickly devolves into a slow, angry chess match. The college games move more quickly, and are more likely to contain exciting moments, IMHO.
