It suddenly stopped working. The window never showed up (though the exe was there in the app list). Tried logging out and logging in. Tried rebooting. Currently trying to uninstall it so I can try reinstalling it - but the uninstall has hung too. :sigh:

A friend of mine have a similar problem since a few day, im not sure if its the same problem but her messenger window wont show up when we start it but it's still in the process list. Already tried to reinstall and no result. One weird thing thought is that if we take her computer and connect it at my home instead it works perfectly. She said she didnt touch any of her router settings too and her computer seems clean from any virus or such. I know that Microsoft has been doing some change to messenger recently, some other friend that were using an old version of messenger were forced to upgrade. Perhaps theres a bug in their update or something im not sure. It could also be an automatic firmware update or something on her hardware that just created that problem too. Anyway one thing we found out is that if we disconnect her network and then try to run messenger the window show up normally but then if we reconnect her network and press the button to connect to messenger it just freeze. You might want to try that too to see if it's a similar problem. Anyway i wish you the best luck with your problem, hope this could help you.

        It's a virus I reckon. ;)

That's the exact problem I have now.

Thanks - that's worth a try. I am also doing a windows update now to see if that might fix it. Thanks once again - I am sure glad my problem is not an isolated one.

The way it's behaving now, I'd categorize messenger itself as a virus :-)

I disabled my network, ran messenger and it showed up. Then I enabled my network and connected and it connects fine :-) Obviously I don't want to do this each time as it really sucks - but it's a temporary fix. I really owe you a big thank you :-)

Well if it's a virus could you give us any information about it, it's name perhaps? This would help me as the computer seemed cleaned. I tried Norton and AVG both updated on the computer and they found nothing. Ive also watched the process myself using process explorer and didn't found anything too. So i guess if it's a virus its a little too advanced for me. Any information you could give would be more than usefull :)

:) I was joking as evidenced by the little ;) winking smily I put a couple of lines down. I don't hold with that newfangled "message type=joke/game" stuff they put on here recently.

The one on my laptop just crashes from time to time (granted its an old laptop but still) and then I get a nice 'do you want to send information to microsoft...' message, I don't know why but everytime I see one of those I always seem to click NO;P anyway it became so bad that I went back to the good old windows messenger ;P but even that one is starting to act up now :sigh: perhaps its time for a format (or new laptop ;P)

If my help was helpfull let me know, if not let me know why. The only way we learn is by making mistaks.

I was wondering about that too. I don't think you had to put the joke icon there! :)
