Armedinijad is a coward

Why didn't he do his usual Farsi skit? It has the same anti imperialist rhetoric that turns on all those rich leftist students, but with a little more conviction. I'm betting they still would have cheered[^]. Of course, MEMRI probably deliberately mistranslated "Death to Israel" from "Democratic self determination for the Palestinian people".

There are quite a few "leftists" who would not cheer Ahmadinejad, who would only be interested in hearing him speak for the sake of knowing the enemy (or as a study in abnormal psychology, to put it in an educational context), and who see him not as a respected world leader, but as a blustering, mentally deficient, hyper-religious tool. You know, just like the one running our country.

I fully expected cheering from the leftists in the audience, but it's still unsettling that about 1/5 of our country falls into that camp. Even Vincent above is hesitant to overtly condemn Ahmadinejad and equates him to our own president. Sadly, that kind of treacherous extremism is becoming more and more common in this country.

Yep, there are a fair number Harry's place[^] is one of the best political blogs in the UK. Oliver Kamm and Christopher Hitchens too. I'm sure you are aware of quite how much abuse they get from the (for want of a better word) Chomskyite left - where the enemies are American imperialism and Zionism and anyone who can spout the right rhetoric gets a pass.

I am overtly condemning him and equating him to our own president. No treachery, no extremism, and no hesitation. Reading comprehension, Red, will never be your strong suit. Unless, of course, you don't consider "blustering, mentally deficient, hyper-religious tool" to be a condemnation.

That is certainly the view of leftists.

Absolutely not. Equating the head of a terrorist state to our own president is elevating him far beyond the stature he deserves. That is not condemnation by any stretch. This is precisely why the left is so despised by the reasonable people in this country.

Chomsky is an idiot. A very literate, well-spoken idiot, but an idiot nonetheless, as are those who hang on his every word like gospel.

There is certainly no shortage of (to borrow your word) Chomskyites on college campuses.

I didn't say he was a theocrat. I said he was a blustering, mentally deficient, hyper-religious tool. I think he would be comfortable as a theocrat, but I believe he's more likely to end up as a baseball commissioner.

Again, Red, work on your reading comprehension. Ahmadenijad is a blustering, mentally deficient, hyper-religious tool. Do you consider that to be a condemnation?

I consider equating him to the position of our president to be a compliment. It's also further exposes your vitriolic, anti-American hatred.

I guess I need to brush up on my reading as well, because when you say: "There are quite a few "leftists" who would not cheer Ahmadinejad, who would only be interested in hearing him speak for the sake of knowing the enemy (or as a study in abnormal psychology, to put it in an educational context), and who see him not as a respected world leader, but as a blustering, mentally deficient, hyper-religious tool. The only thing that seems unclear is whether you see Ahmadinejad as being a blustering, hyer-religous tool as well..... Your words, not mine.:|

I love my country. I don't like its current elected leaders. As much as it may make your brain hurt, those two views are not contradictory, and the ability to hold them both is one of the many things that makes this country great. And, as usual, you still didn't answer my question.

Absolutely. And you left out "mentally deficient".

:) What've you got against Bud Selig? In all honesty, I think Bush will be seen with contemptuous pity in 50 years. An otherwise half-way decent guy, utterly incapable of fulfilling his position and too proud to admit it. He's completely "out-Cartered" Jimmy Carter.
