Is it just me or does there seem to be a growing number of people who are blatantly asking for people to vote for their posts, even to the point of explicitly saying "vote it a 5"? Does anyone else find this a bit pretentious?

    Scott.

It's one of my pet hates - and by that I don't mean that I really dislike the goldfish. These people actively point others towards the MVP status explanation on the site for the reason they want the votes. If one were unscrupulous one could, of course, downvote them a few times until they got the message. But I wouldn't advocate that of course.

Can't say that I've seen any of those posts before, but then again, I've been a reader for quite some time, only joined as a member today. :-O

Yes, I do. I always vote 1 to those messages as a matter of principle. (But I vehemently deny being the unavoter!)

That sounds like my weekend last weekend... had something due Monday morning... This weekend, spending some time with the kids and helping my brother with his pergola he's building, then Monday morning I'm jetting off to Sydney for a week...

Yeah, a lot of simple questions get the same answer 5+ times, I think some folks want to put a CP MVP on their resumes.

I do answer already answered questions, if I belive I add some value, different POV or experience. Should I put "I don't give a damn about CP MVP status" in my sig?

As if I even would. Hey, if someone wants to vote 5 for a message, so be it. A 1 so be it too. Actually in both situations I will sometimes go back and review what I said. If I got a 1, I will look and see if I really said something out of place/offensive (and if it happens to be a terrible pun, I will smile again even with the 1, I happen to have a sense of humor that tends towards really, really, REALLY bad puns). But even with a 5 I will go back and look, what in the world did I say that got a 5? And then I will shake my head unknowingly, and shrug it off. If I help, or offer suggestions, it is for the sake of answering the question or helping to solve the problem/situation. A five is neither expected nor really even desired. Each post is what it is, funny, or terriblely punny, or a serious answer.

How about: "If you liked the answer, please tell your friends. If you didn't, please tell the management."

Not at all, I do the same. It's people who repeat my response, and the three below it, verbatim, that I'm talking about.
