Right. Ancient Hebrew doesn't have vowel markings like modern Hebrew, and some phrases and word meanings have changed, but it's still readable if you read modern Hebrew. In short, I think what I said before still holds. It's interesting though. I'll check with my Hebrew expert brother tonight and let you know. :)

Christianity took alot of concepts from paganism - December 25th, for example. Tales of resurrection of saviors and great floods also came from pagan religions. As for werewolves, vampires - you are probably right - they have little to do with Christianity. The moon, on the other hand, contributed to the instantiation of the Christian calendar.

The word might have evolved from "Saturn" ? the 6th planet? I don’t think the point is just with the number but the planet. The planet Saturn, by our religion, is believed to cast it's mischievous/troubling/terrifying actives on a person. If a person undergoes a bad, traumatic time they call it like "Saturn has taken the orbit for him" something very similar to that. But the catch is this, in our language we have a common word for both "Saturn" and the "Satan". Imagine calling the planet Saturn as "Satan". Both sharing the same word. The planets may actually have an impact on people or anything on earth. Most of us would think that these planetary control thingie is ridiculous but we may have to believe it soon. Because, even the moon control the tides, the ocean->a liquid, a thing in the same state inside our brain controls our stability. And so schizophrenic patients go mad2 on these moon-controlled days-> Full moon day and new moon day. And that's why the Christians have made a link between their werewolves, vamps and the moon. I believe these werewolves are simple schizophrenic people getting into their m-square state. And in our religion, when a person is currently caught up on a satanic-window, he's asked to go round the temple n times that could be to nullify the centripetal/fugal force ot the saturn. What a research in two minutes before I go to sleep. WOW. Ok, many would hate this theory and few may support it. We need a way to let you express your opinion and how much my point is accepted. Yes!! We have this voting system. That's nice . ok Anybody who supports this vote 5. And anybody who thinks it's a crap vote 5. good night! Updates![^] r6gads, Vunic.:-D

Utter crap. If it was even remotely political, I'd assume you got it from one of the tin-foil hat wearing kool-aid drinking conspiracy theory blogs. The etymology of the word I can't really speak on, but the rest of the theory that 'ties' it all together is way out there. With one possible exception... The brain is a very delicate balancing act between chemicals, water and electricity. It wouldn't surprise me if they found that gravity exerted from extraterrestrial bodies had some effect, though I don't know that there is currently knowledge of any such relationship. Ever wonder why you feel extra crappy in the evening when you have a cold? But to say the moon controls the tides is an understatement. Every single particle of matter in the entire universe affects every other particle in the entire universe gravitationally. But if I were to worry about the gravitational effects of anything in our solar system, it would be Jupiter not Saturn. It's closer, heavier, and has the strongest electromagnetic field. So strong in fact that you can catch it on your radio under the right circumstances.

The power of transforming others into wild beasts was attributed not only to malignant sorcerers, but to Christian saints as well. Omnes angeli, boni et Mali, ex virtute naturali habent potestatem transmutandi corpora nostra ("All angels, good and bad have the power of transmutating our bodies") was the dictum of St. Thomas Aquinas. St. Patrick was said to have transformed the Welsh king Vereticus into a wolf; St. Natalis supposedly cursed an illustrious Irish family whose members were each doomed to be a wolf for seven years. In other tales the divine agency is even more direct, while in Russia, again, men are supposedly become werewolves when incurring the wrath of the Devil. [^] Some more text from wiki: A distinction is often made between voluntary and involuntary werewolves. The former are generally thought to have made a pact, usually with the Devil, and morph into werewolves at night to indulge in mischievous acts. Involuntary werewolves, on the other hand, are werewolves by an accident of birth or health. In some cultures, individuals born during a new moon or suffering from epilepsy were considered likely to be werewolves. Unlike vampires, werewolves are not harmed by religious artifacts such as crucifixes and holy water. This is funny btw: According to Russian lore, a child born on December 24 shall be a werewolf. So simple!^^

If Jupiter can do it why not Saturn? Ok you seem to agree to some points to some extentst. I just read some more docs and picked up some more facts. let me throw them here and I'll recap my claim: Sat<-- Means 6. that has been clearly vindicated! Eg: -- Saturn the 6th planet. -- Saturday the 6th day of the week. -- The planet Saturn has six moons oribiting it. -- In our language(tamil), We have a common name for the satan & saturn + this one just did strike me: We also call saturday with same name. it's very much similar to the english way. It's like saying Saturn-day. Do you see a lots of 6s here? And that's how it's written as 666 in bible as evil. And a "Satan" could have evolved from this number. More over as I said, in our lang, we simply call both with the same name. So so many strong points to relate a Satan and a Saturn. It's not to depict "Saturn" to be evil, but it has some "strong" influences on human mind, which people would have found "satanic".

Btw, forget Werewolves. You have this 666 depicting evil right. Please check my reply to bonesoft, or in a line, Evil-->666<--'Sat'an<--'Sat'urn<-'Sat'urday. All 6 things. So the word "Satan" could have come from "Saturn".

An interesting idea, but I think most of it is a really big stretch. I think you're seeing patterns where there are none. As for Jupiter, even it has a miniscule effect on us gravitationally, and it's bigger and much closer to us than Saturn. Gravitationally speaking, the moon completely dwarfs any effect of other planets.

Interesing. To the Romans too Saurn was the god of chaos, of reversal of fortunes. Saturnalia is a particular rite observed stil in theUK where at christmass the officers serve the soldiers their food in the canteen. The same thing at public schools too.

Truth is the subjection of reality to an individuals perception

Great. something's shared between different races, religions. They've had a common beliefs on specific things. I wish to make a study on this field but damn I'm stuck with this pc-job.:sigh: Also nobody pays you for making a study on it.that's bad.

You saw it in Van Helsing. Ahhh...good old Hollywood shaping our view of the world. :) For what it's worth, there's nothing in Christian Scripture (or Jewish Scripture, for that matter) about werewolves, nor anything about holding a cross against something to kill it, like you saw in Van Helsing. (The concept of having little crosses as jewelry, pendants, or charms is also a relatively modern invention. Wearing a cross around your neck would be really strange to folks in Jesus' time; it'd be akin to wearing an electric chair or guillotine around your neck today.)

Good old Irish, you mean? Bram Stoker was Irish, and created Van Helsing long before movies were produced in Hollywood. :)

As has been already pointed out to you, the word/name 'Satan' comes from Hebrew; whereas the word/name 'Saturn' comes from Latin. And there is nothing inherently evil about the number 666. That number is "the number of a man's name." The Hebrews and the Greeks (and the Romans) used letters of their alphabets to represent numbers. Thus, the numeric value of one's name could be computed by simply adding together the numeric values the letters also represented.

The reason why I'm clinging to that point is that, we call the Saturn , the Satan and the Saturday with the just one fine name : "Shani". If someone's so annoying and troubling us, we must say "he's a Shanian". Shani-an . just like CP-ian. :-D Wont this make you think that Saturn & Satan are related?
