RFID Killer

My local council are planning on installing RFID chips in refuse bins in order that they can weigh and charge (extra - I pay my local taxes, dammit!) to remove my rubbish. Now I'm not a tolerant soul when it comes to Government interference in things, so do any of you good people know of a decent RFID killer?

Good luck with that. Odds are they'll have a manual way of entering the information for those bins whos RFID's aren't working correctly - there are bound to be some that fail. Cheers, Drew.
Odds are that they also aren't expecting my vigilante RFID action - I shall work at night, protecting the bins of the entire community. I may even from a league... of like minded community defenders :)

No but I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to do. You can most likely build a low energy microwave zapper using parts from a disposable camera. And yes, I have done something like this but not for RFID zapping but as a lab lesson for my students when I taught Physics.

Crazy glue the top of your trash bin and then place your garbage in your neighbour's bin. After all, that's what neighbours are for. :)

A ballpein hammer. Alternately in the middle of the night you could deposit sacks of cement in their trash cans every week to hammer them with the penalty until they decide it's a bad idea and rescind it.

It's called an incentive to reduce the amount of trash people generate; You just have to reduce the amount of "real" trash you are generating by doing more recycling and maybe dump organic material in a compost bin. Normally, when a city wants to do something like that, they need to offer a free recycling and composting program to balance the reduction in trash. People who care will make the effort to do that and not pay extra; people who do not, they will pay the extra.

Swap your bin with someone from the city council. Fill bin with cement.

Hey maybe you'll develop some sort of mutant XMen like power for this? Have you considered your costume, your alter-ego name? What about... RFIDman! I'd recommend an all black outfit, cape optional. Maybe some ancillary super powers that you could develop would be to emit a static, white noise hiss at will.

Normally, when a city wants to do something like that, they need to offer a free recycling and composting program to balance the reduction in trash. People who care will make the effort to do that and not pay extra; people who do not, they will pay the extra.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for recycling/saving the planet/cutting waste and certainly do my part - it's just that this is nothing more than a stealth tax on top of the tax I already pay to have my waste removed. They ain't talking about any reduction in the "flat rate" tax at all.

I understand the point, but aren't you already paying for this service in the US? Or is it free, in that case I understand, but if you already pay for it, I'm not so ok. If they "missvaluated" their taxes, their problem, and it's their job to change them, but imo this is abusing of your privacy.

It is happening all across the UK by the looks of it. It was political suicide until a few weeks ago, but the government has put in place some unrealistic targets on recycling and the councils don't have the facilities so they need to generate the money to pay the fines they wouldn't have had to pay if they'd just put the systems in place years ago when they first heard about it rather than wait until now. Why is is no longer political suicide? Because councils of all political colours are going down this route so it doesn't matter who you vote for, they are all doing pretty much the same thing.

Stick a neodymium magnet near where the tag is implanted. You can buy them on ebay. It should screw up anything relying on the electromagnetic spectrum within close distance :cool: Alternatively tie a bunch of helium filled balloons to the bin :-D
