Thats what I was thinking. Young girls are more easily manipulated by older men.

You don't know Michelle, she is a paralegal training to be a solicitor, she is very difficult to manipulate!

Nah, she's 'the one'. There's a few things that have combined to get her like this, it's a temporary problem. We also got a call from the school about my son's lack of academic progress, etc, and that's been a real strain on both of us ( that is, we are worried and trying to find ways to help him )

That's all that matters then. Everything else is just communication. :)

She isn't a teenager anymore. In America 17 year olds are juniors or seniors in high school living with their parents, gossiping, working part-time jobs to get spare cash for weed or cellphone minutes and whatever else they buy.

So, my wife found out that a friend's workmate lost her husband to an internet affair. So, she's in a funny mood, talking about cheating, looking through my emails ( I do have a female friend who I write to most days, buy she's married and nothing like that is remotely on the cards ), etc. Women...

Last weekend, my wife and I bumped into an old girlfriend of mine, along with her husband. She's the same age as me, but looks to be in her mid twenties. I introduced her to the family and she made a fuss of the kids. When we were walking away, Jennifer said to me "I didn't know she was that pretty". She's only just started to speak to me civilly:sigh:. I haven't seen this girl in 20 years, we've both married other people and we broke up because there was no real spark there. What does my wife think I'm going to do now? Break up from a happy marriage and attempt to split another couple? She wants to remember that I chose her and chose to spend the rest of my life with her - not somebody else.

Different continent! Here in UK sex and marriage are legal at 16. (to be fair, Michelle was only 3 weeks from her 18th Birthday when I met her). If you really want to worry ages of consent in other European countries vary from 18 to 12! (14 in France, 15 in Germany, but 12 in Holland, that I think is not only too young, but borderline savage). Those who think I was manipulating a young girl for the worst of motives should be ashamed of themselves for thinking such things, I just fell in love!

Without trust you have no relationship IMHO, and it doesn't sound like your wife trusts you if she feels the need to trawl through your emails. I've been there before myself Christian.

12? both of my Grandmothers were married at 12, but they're both over 90, so this happened a while back. This still happens in the Netherlands? Or is it just a law that still exists and still hasn't been amended?

That is a harsh sentiment, she is no child, and 12 years together is not a bad record. You seem to judge me by your standards. I am moral, ethical and educated, not a dirty old man. In fact it is traditional for a man to be older than the women, so please do not direct your puritanical wrath at me!

I'm a father and my job is to protect my children and make sure that they are not taken advantage of by anyone for as long as I can. Again, if you'd turned up to take my daughter out you'd have left with a flea in your ear. And I'm not being purtanical (I was a bit of a neanderthal/tearaway as a youth) I'm being a parent. Let's hear you change your tune when your teenage daughter brings home a man in his late twenties. See how you feel about it then!

Hmmm. Sounds good. Will you be the babysitter then?

Sure, I'll be in Birmingham from early February till sometime in March. I'll have quite a bit of free time with the wife getting herself ready to give birth. Suits you then?

I'm a father and my job is to protect my children and make sure that they are not taken advantage of by anyone for as long as I can. Again, if you'd turned up to take my daughter out you'd have left with a flea in your ear. And I'm not being purtanical (I was a bit of a neanderthal/tearaway as a youth) I'm being a parent. I then apologise unreservedly. I realise I shouldn't have taken your opinion as a personal insult. I agree that I would very likely turn out a complete hypocrite should it be MY daughter. However, I was genuine and true in my affection for this person, and I have not been proved wrong as to my intentions. I think I was quite immature for my age at the time and she was very mature, so we met emotionally in the middle. Time has proven me right of course, so my little list of how to remain a couple has the benefit of experience. Parenting is hard, I have a 17 year old son who has a girlfriend, and my views on HIS behavior would be very different if it was my 17 year old daughter. I wish you well with your children.

So, my wife found out that a friend's workmate lost her husband to an internet affair. So, she's in a funny mood, talking about cheating, looking through my emails ( I do have a female friend who I write to most days, buy she's married and nothing like that is remotely on the cards ), etc. Women...

that's one of the funny meanings of 'funny', right?

If for any reason you need a place to sleep you can come to Spain, I'm sure that I'll be able to find a room for you somewhere... ;) And being serious, what the others have said is good enough I think... Good luck!

Thank you: and you with yours. Parenting is the hardest, most complex and most rewarding job I've ever had. Can't wait for them to leave home... :-)
