Scott Guthrie mentioned in a blog post today (actually in a comment), that the new VS 2008 Pro will come with unit testing not just team versions. Additionally, they will provide templates so that people with the Express or Standard versions will be able to easily include third party test engines. Guess they figure testing is become a major role in development now.

Guess they realised that people are still using nunit instead of paying for VSTS, so they may as well get some users happening.

That's great, but it would be much better if they included the code analysis and metrics pieces as well...and how about a link to the blog post (or the comment) you're referencing?

        Scott.

What, you don't have Scott's blog in your RSS read? :) http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/11/13/asp-net-mvc-framework-part-1.aspx[^] The post about it was down in the yellowish comments (those are the ones from him).

Yes, but it doesn't show the comments that have been posted.

That's nice. Now I can do unit testing with my favorite NUnit 8). VS2005 made me work with that terrible integrated unit testing system. Now all in right places again. NUnit is MUCH faster... But I still hope that Microsoft will improve their unit testing in VS2008....Норе is a good breakfast, but a bad supper.

It would be nice if MS did a bit more testing on VS 2008 itself. It's rock solid if you use it for Winforms, but try doing some 3D XAML and you'll find the Designer is diabolical to use and VS crashes several times a day :-(

Maybe now Jamie at TestDriven.net will get his MVP back for making it work. If you don't already know the story: http://weblogs.asp.net/nunitaddin/archive/2007/05/30/microsoft-vs-testdriven-net-express.aspx[^]

                    Cheers, Daaron

Actually, the way I read that was the ASP.NET MVC Web Application project will have templates for NUnit, etc. Not VS2008 per se. Of course I'd love to see NUnit, MBUnit, etc baked into VS as an alternative to the incompatible MSUnit, but I doubt MS will do it. Long live TestDriven.NET
